5/4/24 - Update on My Husband

Filed the appeal yesterday to keep my husband at the rehab facility. My husband can't understand how they can want him to go home when he can't even get in and out of bed without assistance. I can't understand it either. I am still hoping that he can come home this month. Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts. Photo Credit: Pixabay

It's just plain ridiculous that they'd want to send him home. How is he, and you, expected to function?

It's really all about the bottom line. They don't care about the individual.

I hope you win the appeal. He needs to be there until he is able to get in and out of bed.

Yes, he needs to be much more independent before he can come home.

I guess they expect you to either help him in and out or else get one of those poles to grab onto.

Odd. That's all I can say right now. Are there no humans there?

@LindaOHio Odd. I have worked with preschool teachers who don't seem to like kids.

I hope, but you really need to have a plan B together for whatever happens. I would be working on that now. You don't want to be blindsided.

@LindaOHio Well, if he can't get out of bed??? The PT isn't going to be there all the time. I think it is a definite you will need a home health aide..I would certainly think so anyway.

There is a physical therapist lined up for 2 weeks. I don't know if we need a home health aide.

@snowy22315 The HHA would have to be here 24/7. I want my husband more independent before he can come home.

Have you thought about filing a grievance with your state’s insurance commission? They’re just messing with you, and that’s WRONG.

I hope that there is a positive response to that appeal. He needs care for some more time in the rehab. It's ridiculous that they want him to go home when he is actually not ready for that. Take care. Keeping you in prayers.

I hope you can win the appeal, your husband cannot come home, there is no one to help him out of the bed. I know that Medical Insurances require that the patient MUST improve by ''X" percent/amount every 7 days. If they improve too much or not enough, continued physical therapy is denied, and the patient can be forced to leave the rehab facility, or pay for the rehab facility and treatments. It is a shame that the paperwork applies a 'one size fits all' mentality.

@LindaOHio It is a really a shame that they oblige you to pay. It makes no sense to send him home.

My guess is that your insurance company is paying as little as possible to the facility, so they want to push your husband out so they can fill the bed with another patient who either pays full price or has an insurance company that pays better. It's sad that these days it's all about the money and not about the patient's recovery. I hope your husband continues to improve.

@LindaOHio Sad. They have no problem taking the money in from us in the form of premiums and deductibles, but they sure seem to have a problem paying it out to the doctors and medical facilities.

Thanks. The insurance company doesn't care about my husband's well being. They only care about the bottom line. They want him OUT of the rehab facility.

Gee seems a patient advocate is needed to offer you some kind of assistance. Or a lawyer. What are they doing to facilitate your husband speedy recovery? What do they suggest you do if he is not strong enough to come home yet? Where is he supposed to go? This is terribly wrong!

We won the appeal. We will keep him in rehab until he is fit to come home, even if it means we will have to self-pay.
