I went to the Mexican place in the smaller town for lunch today. The one out here is alot better, but it is also alot more expensive and my budget calls for cheap. They were pretty busy and one of the people who doesn't ordinarily wait tables took my drink order, and gave me some chips. Anyway, no one actually took my food order so I had to flag down the waitress. I ordered the number 1 which is how they label their lunch specials..but unbeknownst to me they also had the dinner special labeled that way. Not sure why she thought I wanted the dinner special, probably because I didn't specify, but she didn't ask either. It cost more and was definitely more food than I wanted. I told her when it came it wasn't what I wanted..I told her I messed up. She wasn't thrilled, but anyway, she took it away and I got what I wanted. Somebody got some free food I guess. I hope they didn't dump it.

Here they cannot return food to the kitchen area after it has left. It must be thrown out, even when people complain that their food isn't done well enough, it is thrown out.

@Juliaacv I never said it would be served to another patron. The kitchen staff might have eaten it. It is very rare for you to go out to eat anyway..

@snowy22315 I think that is safe for all involved. I wouldn't go out to eat if I had to fear that the food that is served to me was served to another patron and rejected.

Food that has been presented to the table must be thrown out here. I think it's sad, but it's the law.

@LadyDuck I think more likely if someone ate it it would be the restaurant staff. They don't know who is going to eat what and when.

It ma be the law, but you don't really know what the kitchen staff is doing. I trust there is no inspector onsite.

@snowy22315 EXACTLY! May be in the large restaurants of the hotels they respect the law, but the small restaurants surely recycle the food.

It was their fault for giving two different plates the same number. It wasn't your fault.

Knowing that also, they should have asked. I am guessing it isn't the first time it has happened. Especially when it is lunchtime it would be prudent to ask that. All's week that ends well I guess..at least for me.

Not really, wasn't really anything I should have been eating in the first place. Fajitas would have been OK. It involved burritos though.
