I don't know what to think

I have had all my life seasonal allergies and later in my adult life I got High Blood Pressure (HBP), Fibromyalgia, Sciatica and I became Vitamin D deficient. As an adult I have 3 or 4 doctors, changing due to one doctor that retired and change of insurance as well moving. I have been on the same brand of HBP meds ( changed mgs. a few times). And the doctors gave me 90 day scripts of my HBP meds. And because of having HBP I cannot take many OTC (Over The Counter) allergy relief meds and the ones that I could did not work. Therefore my doctor at the time gave me a prescription form of meds that worked well. Since we moved my transportation has begun not to be reliable and my insurance changed also and the new insurance company referred me to a doctor. I called and made an appointment. When I got there I was told that I would not be seeing the doctor, I will be seeing the Nurse Practitioner this time. I go into see her and she askes me health questions and tells me that she doesn't give a patient a 90 day script the first time, she will only give me 30 days worth and I will have to keep coming in every two weeks for a few months in order to get a 90 day script. The NP just listened to my heart and checked my feet for swelling. She called in a 30 day script for the HBP meds and for the seasonal allergy meds. She also told me before I came back in I had to go to a local lab and get the usual blood work done. I asked her and the receptionist about the process to go there, figuring I needed a referral. But they both said that I did not.The pharmacy called me and told me that my insurance will not pay for the allergy meds because they are OTC meds! So I ended up paying for them and they do not work! I called the lab and received a recording that upon coming in you MUST bring in a referral!!!!!! I called the doctors office and was told when I come in for my next appointment I can get my bloodwork done there and as usual I do not need to fast. She asked me when I would like to come in and I laughed and said, "Well before my 30 HBP meds run out! Besides I already have an appointment set." When I went in to my appointment I went back to get my bloodwork done and was expecting to see the doctor too. But was told my next appointment would be a video one in 2 weeks so I could discuss my bloodwork results. The appointment was set for 2 weeks later at 3:00 PM. When I got home my phone was ringing and it was the doctors office and it was the receptionist saying that the papers she gave me when I left were not for me they were for another patient. For me to throw them away. Well at the time I didn't think much about it stuff happens. I never did get my papers mailed to me. I waited for the phone call for 10 minutes and it didn't come thru and I called them and got their voice mail and I left a message. About 20 minutes later the receptionist called me back saying that they had put my appointment on the wrong book and thought I was a no show! And that they realized their mistake and the doctor will call me soon. SMH!!!!! Therefore I am having to delay doing something with my grandson for longer! Another 15 minutes later the NP called me and was saying, "You fasted before the test right?" I told her no I was told I didn't need to and I never have. Then she said, "No wonder you Cholesterol count is high. 5.0 is normal and yours is 6.6. " She asked me did I want to do where I adjust my diet or take meds." I told her I cannot afford for about 5 more days to go buy new food. So she prescribes low mg Cholesterol meds for me on a faulty blood test! SMH again! Then I looked online and saw that average Cholesterol count is 200 and that most of the foods that I am already eating and drinking are low in Cholesterol. Therefore I decided to adjust my diet instead of the pills. I called the doctors office to find out how much Cholesterol should be my daily limit and got the voicemail and I left a detailed message and no one called me back. I waited till about noon the next day and called back and told the receptionist and she said the NA (Nurse Assistant) would call me back. NOT! It has been 7 days and now I am wondering do they know what they are doing? What do you think?

I cannot believe that they did not inform you that a blood test for cholesterol need that the person fasts during 8 hours. What a stupid thing to oblige you to change your diet and (EVEN WORSE) to take medications, as they know you did not fast so the count is wrong!

Yeah and then when I asked what the Vitamin D count was, she said they didn't run that test! Well why not? She said she didn't know.

@LadyDuck I never had to fast for the HBP and Vitamin D test with any of my previous doctors either. I never had to just do 30 day scripts either for a medication that I have been taking for years or coming in every 2 weeks. The video appointment I said to her, " Are you giving me my HBP meds for 90 days this time?" She hummed and hawed then says yes that the Cholesterol meds can effect my blood pressure therefore she wants me to take my blood pressure every day, log it in a book and come in in 3 months, fasting and bring the log book with me and we would re do my bloodwork then. But if the bottom number on my blood pressure goes under 80 to call her. I hadn't even took the Cholesterol meds but the next day my blood pressure was 70 so I called and they said she was busy and the NA said she would tell her and she would call me back. She did and told me the NP said OK. SMH! So why did she call me back?

It sounds like either they need to hire some competent office people or something. I don't think they know. I wish you had insurance like mine. I can see whatever doctor I want and I do see a doctor. I get my meds 90 days worth. I don't pay a co-pay or anything. I get a yearly eye, ear, and dental exam for free. I even had a nurse come out to my house a couple of weeks ago to do a basic exam. It is great insurance. I wish you could get better insurance.

Wow! What insurance do you have? I am on Medicare and use a supplemental insurance. I pay no co pays except for specialist or ER visits. I need an eye appointment but can't afford the copay. I think possibly they are having me come in so much to get more money from Medicaid Insurance companies. But my previous doctors didn't do that.

@dfollin ......I have no co-pay either. After a certain age, you need to see the eye doctor more. I don't cause I just had one cataract surgery and I know it will be a few years until I needed on the other eye. I feel fortunate to have the insurance that I have. I hear from a lot of people that their insurance isn't that good and their doctors aren't either.

I don't know but most people know they have to fast before bloodwork, unless they specifically say you don't. Usually they do mention it though. They don't test for everything when they do bloodwork..usually if it is something specific it has to be requested..which obviously they didn't.

I asked twice if I had to fast and they said no. And I never had before with my previous bloodwork for the tests for HBP and Vitamin D.

It sounds to me like they have absolutely no idea what they're doing. This sort of runaround is all so frustrating. I'd be tearing my hair out.
