5/5/24 - Update on My Husband

We won the latest appeal. I think this is all so ridiculous to keep going through this process every 1 to 2 weeks. Just leave my husband in the facility until he is able to come home! He still cannot get in and out of bed by himself, he hasn't had any Occupational Therapy and he hasn't done steps. Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts. Photo Credit: Pixabay

How come he hasn't done any occupational therapy or steps? Are they just letting him lie there? I thought he was getting therapy? I really wish the powers that be wouldn't play games like they are doing in your case (or probably in everyone's case). Alll decisions should be made with compassion and for the advancement of healing and recovery.

@LindaOHio Okay, I see. It all runs in conjunction with each other. I hope that he can progress to OT quickly to increase his chances of coming home sooner rather than later.

I would not want to have to do the appeal process over and over, but if that is what it takes, so be it. I do not understand why he has not had Occupational Therapy yet. I sort of get it about the stairs waiting until he can walk regularly.

@MarieCoyle I want him home but I will not rush it. He will stay as long as he needs to regardless of what insurance says.

@LindaOHio Steps are going to be difficult for him since his legs are weak. And of course steps require us to put all of our weight on one foot and then the other foot, which is hard for him. Unfortunately, it won’t happen fast. I’m sure he is doing the best he can. I know that it’s disheartening.

Do they give him any exercises to do when they are not there to help him get stronger so he can get out of bed? I know you don't want to keep going through this no one would. I don't think I would be satisfied with that place though..and would be looking for alternatives

@LindaOHio Good idea..also maybe get on a waiting list if there aren't. That should help.

He has exercises he's supposed to do in bed. I am calling on Monday to see if there are any beds available at that facility that he likes.

@snowy22315 From what I have heard, I know our nursing facilities are all full and being on a waiting list is truly a help. Even assisted living here is on a waiting list. If a person is on the list and gets called that it’s available, they can turn it down if they aren’t ready, and stay on the list. I didn’t realize just how hard it is to get a person in a good facility until I had to do it for my aunt. It’s often just not easy.

Insurance companies don't want to pay more than they have to. Most people get what they need in two-three weeks. At least your insurance company is behaving for now.

@LindaOHio I cannot believe that they are obliging you to appeal. Should they use their little brain, they should understand that your husband cannot come back home now. His therapist says he is not ready for OT or steps, so how can he come back home!?

@LadyDuck They will continue to try to throw him out; and I will continue to try and appeal. The day will come when we will no longer win the appeal. Then he will have to stay in rehab on our dollar.

Happy to know that you have won the This all sounds so ridiculous and must be annoying to go through it again and again after every two weeks. I am praying that he improves a lot during these two weeks and can come home. Take care

It really makes a person wonder what these insurance people are thinking. I know paper work is a lot of it but it is so taxing on everyone involved.

Why does insurance that's supposed to help have to be so aggravatingly irrational. Insurance companies don't make decisions that help the people who are paying their salaries.

@LindaOHio I had no pain for five hours after the nerve block, then when those six injections wore off, the pain was back, but that was to see if I might get longer lasting pain relief later with the ablation. The three days after that were terrible, but yesterday and today have been right much better.

Congratulations. And yes it is annoying. I just saw a couple of walkers with arm rests and sitting arrangement on Amazon. Maybe you might need one at home....going forward. I was just thinking that if he gets tired can he sit on his own. And prevent the wheels from continuing to move.
