5/8/24 - Update on My Husband

Hubby said he walked a record distance. Almost made it to the nurse's station and back. Still no mention of any Occupational Therapy or trying to climb stairs. He still needs help getting in and out of bed. I asked the Business Office for a breakdown of the $1,218 that they charged us. Two days later and she hasn't called me back even though I called again yesterday. No call back from the other facility either. I left a message that I wanted to know if they had any beds open. Where did these people learn how to run a business? Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts. Photo Credit: Pixabay

I am sorry no one calls you back, your husband would surely be very happy to move to the other facility.

@LindaOHio I know, people are no more professional, they lack good manners and also common sense.

They don’t have to “run a business,” because they are a sadly a “necessity.” That is a very awful fact of life. The “quality” facilities are full with a waiting list, and the poor ones have the attitude of “hey, where are you gonna move him?”

@MarieCoyle So many of the facilities have a one star or two star rating.

The good facilities truly are very hard to get in to. We have had one huge nursing home/rehab recently close. Another is teetering and may have to do the same. It’s very hard to find a good place here for those who need the services.

The office is stalling. They realize that he will not go anywhere until they answer your questions, and they do not want that. I hope that he continues with his walking, that is building back his strength.

Yes! Glad to hear of his continued progress. I hope that while he continues to set new achievement records that you get all the billing figured out.

@LindaOHio Depend on the insurance company to help? To me that sounds even worse!

The Billing Office was of no help. She said to check what comes in from our insurer.

@moffittjc I went through a 2" high stack of insurance paperwork PLUS I also checked all my husband's transactions on the insurance website. There was NOTHING saying that we owed $1,218.

That is awesome! It sounds like he is getting stronger now! I agree with comment below, they are stalling. They have you where they want you....pushed to a distance. I hope things get better with dealing with them or your husband can get moved to a better place.

It might be worth reaching out again, perhaps directly to the nurse's station or another department if you're not getting the responses you need from the Business Office. Persistence often pays off in these situations. As for your husband's progress, it's good to hear he's making strides, even if they're small ones. Rehabilitation can be a slow process, but every step forward is progress. Keep advocating for him and pushing for the care he needs. And don't hesitate to ask questions or voice concerns – you're his best advocate.

It has to be extremely frustrating that you can't get an answer from either facility. That is good news that your husband is making progress with his walking and hopefully they'll start the occupational therapy soon.

I'm sorry you're not getting a response from the business offices. I hope they call you back. I'm glad your husband walked more than usual. Progress is always good. Hopefully, soon he'll get in and out of bed by himself. Then I hope they start working with him on stair climbing.

It's very unprofessional really but that's the way of the world nowadays it seems - establishments not calling you back when they say they will.

Many times these rehab places are the same as assisted living and nursing homes--they have more than one facility, often in different areas, etc. So, they have a person who is in charge over all of them collectively and the office person you are dealing with is merely a puppet, put in place to do the dirty work. You are a good sleuth, maybe you can find out if/who/where the real boss resides that you could call and get some action? Just an idea.
