The Sunshine

Today was a day full of sunshine and great news for me. My manager advised me that I have earned the Legion of Legends Award for Q2. That is indicative of really hard work, trust me I have been working my tail off. It paid off, although I was surprised that I did that well. After work I took a phone call. It was more great news. I have been without a family doctor since March, and I have only had 1 lead, which I went to the office and filled out a patient application form as the doctor was accepting patients on his wait list. I have been accepted. That is probably much better news in my books as I need a primary care physician and there is such a shortage of them in Ontario. Judging by his last name, I am sure that I will be somewhat challenged communicating to him, as I doubt that English is his first language, but I will cross that bridge when I go for my meet and greet appointment towards the end of the month. I also may have saved a life today. Yes, saved a life. I had a customer call in who seemed distracted and told me that she was having a really hard time. She broke down and cried, and I realized pretty quickly it was not regarding her banking. When I asked her again, she told me that she wanted to cause harm to herself but she did not want to tell me as she said that I sounded nice and she didn't want me to call the cops. I broke down in tears and listened and then send the information to my manager. She was 20 minutes late for our team meeting as she had to call the police for that region to ask them to do a health check on her. I hope that it was not too late. Otherwise, the sun shone on me today. I felt relieved and happy at the good news that I received. Anything new and exciting happen to you today?

It really frightened me to know that I may have been the last voice that another person heard. I hope that the RCMP were able to intervene and do a wellness check on her.

Congratulations for earning the Legion of Legends Award for Q2, I know that you fully deserve it. What a relief to know that you finally have a primary care doctor. What a terrible moment to listen to that woman who wanted to harm herself. I hope your manager arrived to alert the police quickly enough to save the life of that person.

In my feeble attempt to keep my distance from that terrible manager that I have, I dove a little further into my work, and apparently it was noticed by higher up. Today was another day at work like all of the rest, but I get through it. I am so relieved that a doctor has taken me on, and his office is only a couple km's away from here.

@LadyDuck On his website I read that he is affiliated with the small, but very good, hospital in our downtown area. That impressed me. Also, he doesn't require a patient to come in for prescription refills, he has the patient advise the pharmacist to contact his office. This is nicely streamlined. I am sure at some point he will require blood work, but otherwise just having someone into the office is unnecessary billing on the doctor's part. My former doctor did that.

Congratulations on your award and also for finding a PCP. You may have very well saved a life yesterday. I'm glad you didn't dismiss her. She definitely needed help.

Thanks, I never dreamt that I would receive that award, but I am happy that hard work still pays off. I look forward to meeting the new doctor the end of the month. I went to his website and he really has a sophisticated and modern approach with his time management. So much can be done without making the patient come in for an appointment.

@LindaOHio Thanks, it is just such a huge relief to have a family doctor. I feel like I should have my thyroid checked, my hair is thinning and I have felt sluggish lately. I cannot go into a clinic for something like this.

I am sure you more than deserve the award, praise, and any raises or perks. Good job! You were the one that lady reached out to. Maybe she realized that she should have. Regardless, you did the right things to try to get her any possible help she needed. So glad you were there for her.

Thank you. I work as hard as I can because I loathe my current manager, and any and all interactions with her are something that I avoid at any cost. But I did not expect my efforts to be rewarded. I will receive a larger bonus, which I will find out the exact amount in December as it is paid out in January, as well as the raise that comes in January will be bigger. I think of that young woman and hope that she is safe tonight. Her words were haunting.

@MarieCoyle I know that but my voice escaped me and I could barely respond for a few seconds, which in itself, can be denial of help. She did answer her call when the police contacted her, I thought of her today.

@Juliaacv It's a scary position to be in. When it happens and someone is in crisis like that, it always takes us by surprise. You have to quickly think your way through what you are saying, because at the point they are reaching out, you don't want to lose them or turn them away. Evidently, you said and did what you could do make the situation better, and help reached out to the young lady. I am so glad you were there to listen to her. I know you won't ever forget it, it just stays with you.

Congratulations on your award which I know you definitely deserved. I don't know anyone who works harder than you do. I hope that poor lady was okay when they did the health check. Gosh that must have been so hard to listen to her struggles. We never know what people are going through in their daily lives. I'm happy you have sunshine and that you found a new doctor. We have another day of rain today (ugh)

Thanks, I did happen to notice that the general manager commented to me a few times that my hard work is being noticed, but I did not know to what extent. I hope that what they told me about the lady that they called is true, I do not know if they can tell me otherwise. I think of her every day.

Congrats to you on being recognized for all your hard labor. Doctors and shortages: it takes an act of God to get a doctor in my area. I finally have found one and will meet her next month. I think she is from another country and that appears to be common now.

Thank you, I work my tail off every day, it is nice to be recognized. Here you have to apply to the government to have them 'find' you a doctor who is accepting new patients. I got really lucky given I haven't been without one for very long. This doctor's office is only about a 10 minute drive away too, which is better than I have ever had in the past. He has a website, his picture is on it, he looks to be Nigerian.

Firstly, congratulations on your award. That's really wonderful and there is no way it would be awarded if you didn't deserve it. I'm sure talking to you would have helped that poor woman. I hope she is able to get help. But how traumatic for you.

Thank you, I work my tail off because I have a manager who is very unprofessional and I will do anything to dodge any interactions with her. This worked. I keep thinking of that poor lady, and hoping that the police made it to her in time and that they were able to offer the assistance that she needs and that she is getting professional help currently.
