Own a Piece of the Arctic

Imagine living halfway between Norway and the North Pole. You could have a 15,000-acre plot and your closest neighbor would be Santa with his toy shop, elves, and reindeer. Plenty of fresh air and you could build your dream home. This is the last remaining privately owned land on the Svalbard Archipelago in Norway. The only thing keeping you from this land is the price of 300 million Euros. Maybe Santa needs some more space and you and he could strike a deal. Sounds like some kind of fantasy. But in all reality, the land is for sale but not like a piece of real estate for sale to a single person. The land can be bought by someone originating from a country that ratified the Svalbard Treaty. Almost fifty of these countries are located across the globe among them, China and Russia. I only wonder what the person or company who purchases this land full of natural resources will do with it.

I know about Svalbard. Have you seen Cecelia (I can't spell her last name) her YouTube channel. She lives there and tells about her life there.

Is the United States one of those countries? It sounds wild. What kind of resources are there besides ice? I don't have a few million at my disposal and I like to live in warm places.

@RasmaSandra Do you think that Putin would say it is his? I know he thinks Alaska is part of his kingdom.

I am not interested in such a cold place. But I don´t need to think whether I want it or not. I don´t have the money.

@marguicha that is just the point. People don't have this kind of money but companies do and you have to hope whoever buys it does not exploit what is there

@just4him the scary part is that you don't want a company exploiting the many natural resources there

I can't imagine anyone being able to work out in that sub-zero weather, to build a home! And the closest neighbor would be a family of polar bears:)

@Kobesbuddy it will probably be a company who buys but I am worried about what they plan on doing there,

@RasmaSandra Any company would strip out all the natural resources, gas, oil, valuable minerals in the soil. That would be their only purpose for purchasing that property, $$$$$$$

Yeah, I’m thinking China and Russia are ones we should hope stay away if we care about natural resources. Of course, other countries have bad environmental records, but other countries also aren’t trying to conquer the world. Don’t let Elon Musk buy it either.

@AmberPam I agree with you. It would be great if a company that believes in preservation and also of animals would purchase it. There are polar bears, seals, walruses and other kinds up there.

It would be a dream home for anyone to purchase private land between Norway and the North Pole.
