Topic stealers: a new MyLot low?

We've all seen cases of people stealing answers that other users have posted, which is annoying. But today I've seen two cases in which people posted THE EXACT SAME QUESTIONS that other users had previously posted! Maybe it's not serious enough to report to Mylot, but I think a comment calling the person out on their thievery is appropriate, and maybe a negative rating for the stolen post. Anybody else come across this? What do you do?

I have come across these too, especially since the most recent updates to myLot. When I see an obvious copycat, I do report it to myLot. I think it's the only way we can ensure that the community grows and evolves into something good.

This is one issue that Xomba has reign supreme over mylot! I don't have a problem with it, until someone steals my post! Then we have a problem! Calling someone out on it is perfectly fune hopefully some people see your comment about them!

Yesterday I started reading a really thoughtful topic someone posted about the Iraq war. After the second paragraph it started sounding really familiar--the guy had copied and pasted an entire editorial from the NY Times! Jeez, what b@lls! I reported him.

Not cool dude! Plagerizm has to be the 1st deadly sin of writing! I admit sometimes reading peoples stuff gives me ideas, but stealing their whole article that's ridiculous!

you know what I kind of noticed that too but I think for some it might be an honest mistake, I have a hard time believeing that people would just put up the same EXACT question knowing that there is another one just like it, there are 40,000 members on here, if someone is able to see ALL discussions in a day then I am pretty darn impressed by that alone!

Identical, word for word posts are not a mistake.

I should have mentioned that this wasn't a short 'Coke or Pepsi' type post, but one by the user Leonora, 'Mylot is...boring,' with 3 or 4 sentences after that. The other user copied all of it word for word. This was definitely no accident.

sorry bad joke lol So I have been noticing this alot lately as well, i report all these users as it is wrong! and I always write back to them, they think we are so stupid eh to not notice? If you look through the users other responses on other topics it is the same thing! They are constantly using the topics as resposes and have a rating of like 1193 and you know they are getting paid, so pathetic!

No problem, some days bad jokes are the only amusing things on Mylot. I got a chuckle out of it.

I must say that I have some discussions that look like other ones. I first had searched on words which were related to the discussion I wanted to start and nothing was found. So I start the discussion and when ready you see simular questions. It happened with me that there was a question already there like the one I posted while it didnt come up when I searched for it... So I think sometimes its not on purpose...

Yes, exactly the same thing has happened to me. I always search before I start a new discussion to avoid posting s.th. similar as s.o. else. To my surprise after sending my subject there are similar or even identical headlines.

That is what the rating system is for. Rate them with a minus or an! so that the administration can take care of them. Give a + rating for a good answer.

I haven't noticed the topic stealers yet, but I have noticed the ones who will just copy and paste someone elses answer, I have reported one person twice because it was just rude and made me angry! I think you shuld definitely report it if you see it!

I haven't noticed the stealing of answers myself, but if someone gives a 'yes' or 'no' answer, or something that's unrelated to what's asked, than I give them a negative rating. But if i notice it i'll definitely make a comment to them about it.

i do not think that is going to work in anycase, though some may steal it. i don't think they will get any point for that.

yeah, i've had one done to me (i didn't mind that much but i still reported it) and i saw it done to someone else, that one really got me because it was one of the 'help me' topics, not a general discussion topic...this person was seriously trying to get some advice and another person copies it and puts it in male form, then passes it out for their own. i really don't get the point of this. do we get paid for posting discussion topics?? last i heard was no...i would just rate in a - and report the post to mylot staff..and don't forget to include the original posts. also, i can't believe some people think they can get away with it....all the topics are time stamped...c'mon

I have not only seen this but I have seen people copying and pasting articles from the internet right on mylot. One guy today I checked his profile. He was 19 years old and had posted discussions about a variety of topics that were 7 or 8 paragraphs in length. He put up about 10 of those in 5 minutes. I reported each one. On thing that I saw was that the articles were imaculate as far as spelling and grammar. One the other one's that he startes you could see the normal questions like what your favorite color or tv show was. In addition to that there were numerous spelling and gramatical mistakes. A person who is plagarizing anything in any form does not deserve to be here. I spent at least 30 minutes today finding and reporting articles like this. This is time I could have spent responding to discussions, but I chose to report those violations instead. It helps to make myLot better for all of us.

Why would you NOT report it. This is an abuse of the system and I report it every time I see it. I "!" then "-" on every one of them.
