How do you get your discussion to be a top discussion?

I've posted a few posts of interesting topics, but they never show on the top discussions page. How does one discussion get there? Is it by the number of answers it gets? If so, how can my posts have more answers, if they end up on the last page of the discussions? Not everybody goes until the last page. I find this sucks, cuz i've posted interesting conversations and the maximum answers i've gotten so far is 9!

I don't really know how things work around here. I just wanted to make sure I thanked you for that good advice on the scam post by replying to another one of your topics. However the first person that responded had good advice.
