She went back to "work" this week, both Tuesday and Thursday. She "works" 7 hours a day, two days a week. The family friend that owns the business just has her "socializing" and is picking her up and taking her home because she doesn't drive now.
We've noticed she hasn't been hearing well for over a year, so I've made her an appointment with my ENT doctor on this coming Wednesday for ear exam and hearing testing. Loss of hearing contributes to isolation, loneliness, and dementia.
On Oct. 14th we finally will get her neuropsych testing done to determine if she has dementia and if so, how far gone she is. We're sure she has it.
We've taken over paying her bills and balancing her checkbook and handling her finances and insurance and medical issues for her.

You are handling an incredibly difficult situation with so much grace and love. Getting her back to socializing is wonderful for her mental state, and taking charge of the hearing test and neuropsych evaluation are such crucial, proactive steps. Managing all her finances and medical needs is a huge responsibility—she's very lucky to have you looking out for her so thoroughly.

Yes the hearing would not help your Mother in law if she is losing it Lou.
