I said NO to the lifeguard

I've mentioned before that while we have a rotating group of lifeguards at the pool there is one in particular that everyone can't stand. He fights with people. He preaches about God. He loves to tell everyone "gay is the way". (I don't care if he is religious or straight/gay but inappropriate to be announcing at the pool) He gets half an hour for lunch. I have no issue with that but he never takes it at the same time. Some days it is at 4:30 or it could be 2:30. It could be any time. There is no consistency. The issue is that he kicks everyone out of the pool and makes us leave. Most of the lifeguards just bring lunch and tell us to get out of the pool. . . or just eat their lunch. Let's face it they aren't working super hard anyway as evidenced by my post from the other day with a different guy sound asleep in the lifeguard stand. So I got there yesterday just before 2pm. He said to me "NJChicaa you have 2 minutes before you have to go so I can have lunch." I was so annoyed. I said "nope. I'm not going anywhere. I'll park my butt on a lounge chair for 30 minutes but I'm not leaving." Another family saw me make my stand and they said they weren't leaving either. Like if we are adults and say we won't go in the pool then why the hell should we have to leave? (why do I even need a lifeguard in the first place?) Anyway the nutcase likes me enough that he let me and the other family stay. That being said he left and locked the gate so no one else could get in there until he got back. A friend came by and was like WTF?!?! I told her to just hop the fence. And look at that we all survived the 30 minutes not in the pool with the crazy guy.

I love your attitude! I’m kind of impressed they require a lifeguard even if they are mostly useless.

I'm glad that worked out for you. Let's hope he doesn't change his mind in the future.

Fire him. You and all the other residents are paying his wages with your condo fees.

Sounds a bit like Barney Fife to me ..with an added bit of insanity.

If the lifeguard is asleep on duty he's no use anyway!

I love that. Sometimes, we need to maintain our ground and stand up to people. You did the right thing
