I see a lot of adult content on my space that isnt blocked and my best friends little sister uses it and she is 14. I am kinda worried about her metting strange people off there. How do you feel about it?

I suggest that you dont worry because most kids only use myspace for another way to communicate with friends.

I think she should be educated about things that happen there, not banned from it. If she wants on, she'll get on. It's better to know about it and be able to inform her about what could happen on there so that she's careful.

I think any online activity a child (teen or preteen included) does should be monitored closely. It should be ok for them to have the myspace account, as long as the parent can view it and approve both the content and the friends added. It should also be made a private account, which means only friends on the friend list can view it. The parent should have the password as well and be able to go into the account whenever they deemed necessary to be sure there are no inappropriate messages or whatever.

I think it is okay. AS LONG as her parents are looking out for her. The problem starts when the parents do not look to see what's going on. She should also have it posted that she is only 14 so her page can not be viewed by people other then her friends. She also should not be allowed to add anyone other then her friends. That would prevent her from meeting strange people. As for the things she sees or reads, that can not be prevented. But most likely she comes in contact with adult content that is the same or just as bad at school.

I don't think you should have a myspace until you're like 18. lol! Nah, 16 might be okay if they are mature or their parents will check up on them. It's just so dangerous. But honestly, 14, way to young. When I was 14 I loved guys attention so much that I did some pretty stupid things online. I'm very lucky that I didn't get into some bad trouble. I didn't get a myspace though until I was around 19. I'm 21 now and I'm still cautious.

Hi! I think you are right to be concerned. I hate to see the Internet turn into the "babysitter" that the television has become. Parental supervision when kids are on the Internet is so important. I would never let my daughter get on sites like this until she was older (like over 18, etc), and even then, I will supervise what she does on the Internet. She's only 4 and I let her play the games and do the stories on the Disney site. You are right to have reservations.

It's dangerous. But so are chat rooms. I don't want my kids using it, but hopefully by the time they are teens MySpace will be a thing of the past. I won't let my kids use a computer unsupervised, because I know what bad things can happen.

I think it is ok for preteens and young teens to use it if they have parental supervision. It is a parent's job to know what their children are doing. Also she should be informed of general safety rules. Don't give out your name, address or phone number to anyone you meet on the net. There are just too many weirdos out there!
