Are men and women really equal?

I'm not talking about from the standpoint of the values of their lives or the rights they should have. I just want to know if you guys think men and women are equal in terms of mental and physical ability. I'm asking this because I see lots of instances where women scream and demand to be equals or treated as equals...and in certain situations it doesn't seem to make sense for me. One example is the armed forces...mainly the Marines and the Army. Women are mostly excluded from playing a part in combat arms branches like infantry because of the physical differences. Yet, some women claim that this is sexist. I am not a sexist person but hey...I just want consistency. If you want to be equal then I believe you should be treated COMPLETELY as equals. So if a women were to commit some crime, then they should be prosecuted just as harshly as a male would. What do you all think?

Dude...I don't even know what you just said. Anyway... I just wanted to clarify something before women jump all over me about being sexist. I am not saying women don't have equal mental or physical CAPACITY. I am just saying that, through evolution, men and women have different skill sets and natural abilities. So not one gender is better than the other...but they are not equal because they are not the same.

People don't like talking about intelligent topics. I guess I need to start a "benefit of eating a _____" topic.

As far as the armed forces, I think if a woman shows that she can handle the physical aspects of the job, she should be allowed to. I don't think any woman should be allowed to just for the sake of equality just like I don't think any man not suited should be allowed to just because it's what men do. However, I don't think someone should be eliminated solely on the basis of gender. As for mental ability, I do think women and men are equal. I don't think either gender as a whole is smarter than the other gender. And, naturally, a woman who commits a crime should be prosecuted and not be given a lighter sentence simply on the fact that she's a woman.

I would say mentally, sure they can be. Physically I would say no. In general (because I've seen some big bodybuilding women that would crush some guys) men are built bigger and are physically stronger than women. I'm not trying to be sexist but that's the truth. Isn't it?

Also I agree. If a man can be charged for hitting a woman, then a woman that hits a man should be treated the same way.
