I think so. I have solved the problem in my own way - we don't have video games in our house. When my children get to other kids' houses who have video games they sit in front of it for hours. My 10yo actually borrowed a console from a friend. We had it for about 3 days when I finally told them to give it back. I didn't want it in the house. They weren't violent games. If they were, the games would have left the house sooner. Letting your children play violent video games is irresponsible. It's no different than a child witnessing abuse in the home. Some may think we are being overprotective of our children, but if we don't protect them who will?

Its up to the parents because the games are rated so If they allow the children to play thens whats done is done. If the children are of a very young age then obviously don't let them play but if they are mature enough then whatever. Just make sure they don't get bullied as hell in school because thats when the negative effects come into play

I agree with previous posters that they should not be banned but they should be restricted. All the video games now have ratings on them to let parents know what kind of audience should be allowed to play them. Young kids should not be allowed to play games rated for Teen or Mature and should stick to the more "kid friendly" ones.

Bad for children yes, now as for older ones like myself I enjoy playing them, but that being said, I would never allow a young child to. I don't have kids but I have nephews and they are very badly influenced by these games. Of course it is up to the parent to decide, sometimes parents don't make the right choice in allowing kids to play such games.
