Yes; you are downloading copyrighted music without paying and that's a crime! They can find you using your ISP address; people have been involved in lawsuits over this stuff already. If you download stuff you own already (like old vinyl albums), it may be ok, but watch out!

Its not necessarily music. There are videos, programs, games, and pictures that can be downloaded, most of which are illegal. Since millions of people do it though, the government isn't going to waste their time fighting it because record companies are happy with the money they are making from itunes. If you want to download music though, limewire isn't the place to go. Soulseek is the best filesharing program for downloading music. If you have a good internet connection, you can download songs in a few minutes. It is awesome.

They also only track the people who download the files that have licenses attached to them. So just don't download those ones and you'll be fine!! I have been using LimeWire for almost 4 years now and havent had one problem.

Yes, there are risks of course, just be sure to scan the files that you download especially those executable files (.exe files)

Only download things that are labeled well and not just a bunch of numbers or really bad spelling. Also, scan the file with a virus scan before you open it. If you need a viruscaner, you can download a free one from this site http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 It really works and i've been using it for over a year. I download tons of stuff from limewire. I actually downloaded limewire pro from regular limewire. lol

OMG I love Limewire! I have been using it for a couple of years now, and have had no problems whatsoever. Of course I never download applications from there, either. As with anything, protect yourself, and make sure you have spyware, adware, virus blocker(s), etc. It's a great site. You can do movies, music, pictures, gosh - name it. You can also see the speed of the download or what the host is using, which is a big timesaver. You should try it, you'll love it!

Limewire is a Peer to Peer system which can be very dangerous. The Limewire server does not store files, but simply stores links to the original source of the files which is on someone else's computer. When you select an item to download you are directly downloading from the hard drives of other people's computers. The obvious danger here is that you are never certain what is being transferred to your computer until you open the file. Just because someone has chosen to name the file as a certain program or music track does not mean that it will not turn out to be something totally different and potentially harmful to your system. Many people use Limewire and other P2P programs without problems, but the danger is always there. If you must use this type of utility: Always run up to date antivrus. Never download a .exe file. Back up your computer files regularly.

Limewire seems great to me; however, some say that if you're not careful you can receive viruses and spams. Thinking about it, they must be putting something on your computer in order to let you download free music.
