Does spending Christmas really mean spending it with the family? Would you rather spend christmas other than your family?

I have always celebrated Christmas with family. Its not quite the same as years ago. Before the family was so large and everyone got together. Growing up and getting married and having families of our own has changed things a little. Family gatherings are branching out. I still spend it with my family..mom, dad, grandparents, aunts. There is nothing better than being around family on such a wonderful day. I wouldnt have it any other way.

One year I had to work so couldn't go home for the holidays. I was going to spend Christmas all alone in my little apartment but a friend asked me to her house. She picked me up early Christmas Eve and we all had dinner together. Her, her husband and 2 kids and 2 of our friends who were staying with her (they were exchange students from Bulgaria). It was a lot of fun. I slept on the couch and watched the kids open their gifts then played video games with them until we went to her family's house for Christmas dinner. I was welcomed with open arms and they even had a gift for me. I felt very loved by those people who I had never met before. It was almost as good as being with my own family. My brother spends all holidays with friends because he lives thousands of miles away and can't afford to come home. He has been home once in the last 6 years.

I would rather not celebrate Xmas. Every year it's the same thing. It was fun when I was little, but now it's feels more like a chore than anything else. Meh.

I find it very important to spend Christmas with my very immediate family, such as my husband and children. I do not have contact with my parents and would not want to spend the holidays with them. But yes, Christmas with MY family is very special to me. :)

For me Christmas is all about spending time with your family and friends. It's a time to get together and just spend time with one another rejoicing in the years good and bad events. It helps strengthen that bond.

I wish that I had a family to spend Christmas with. I celebrate it with my husband, but glad that we have eachother. At times in the past, I did celebrate it with close friends, and it was wonderful.

I'd prefer spending it with my family. I had always celebrated it with my family since my childhood. But for the past year and this year I will not be able to since I'm working far from home and cannot really make it. I'd be spending it with friends I think.

Christmas is intended to be a "family" occasion but for many people just what is a family? For such people Christmas could simply mean sharing the season with a bunch of best friends. I have done this in situations where I was not able to travel and visit my actual family so it's not just about family. It's about togetherness, friends, family, the spirit of giving, and peace in general.
