I personally think it could very well happen in the next generation. However, there are critics who say it's nothing more than media hype. So tell me what do you think?

It is a fact based on scientific measurements. But the hype in my eyes is about extrapolations like "sea level will raise 30 meters next 100 years" or "look at the weather change in the last 10 years, and is gonna get worse". Even the carbon-dioxide production has raised considerably from industrialization, there also exist geothermal cycles which are bigger a lot and unpredictable, like emission from volcanos or erosion of mountains. The man made part of global warming nevertheless should be cut by clean technologies like banning fluorocarbohydrates, hydrogen based traffic, production of electricity by windmills and fotovoltaic panel etc.

It is not a hype. There are reports based on researches that our planet is getting hot.

global warming has been happening for years but it's only recently most people have realised the real threat is total climate change not just the world getting warmer, but heavier storms, flooding etc. I was taught about this in Science lessons 10 years ago (1996) how various places would be at the risk of flooding but was powerless to do anything personal exept recyling until recently. I watched a documentary recently (called One World, One Voice) from 1990 about a bunch of musicans working together on a world music inspired project and talking about the planet & the environment, has various PSA adverts throughout about the effects of pollution etc. on the then next generation if nothing was done about it, and Bugs Bunny discovering the threat of global warming. Why has it taken so long for Governments, the media and corperations to take it seriously? they wouldn't only be acting now because it would lose the votes/money if they don't, would they? ;-)

As far as I am concerned I believe that we are in a natural cycle of global events that occur every now and then (speak Earth evolution). I am certainly not of the doom and gloom opinion that we (mankind) can have any influence on the state of the earth or it's evolution. Mankind and the time he has spent on this planet is but like a grain of sand in a desert... inconsequential to the nth degree.
