I lead a team of 10 graduates to forest area in Karnataka (Western Ghats) to conduct survey among the villages and tribal people. I was there for nearly 10 months during which time, I had not seen a electric bulb in that area. People use to keep lantern burn out of kerosene. It is the city dwellers just cannot manage if there is shortage of something or the other.

Very good actually ..Two years ago after the hurricane we were two weeks without running water and 3 weeks without electricity - My friend had no power for over TWO month ... Its very strange but you learn to live without it and seeing that we have almost every day power outages we don't take it for granted anymore

life can be boring without electricity. if this were the 19th century or before, this would not have been the case. inorder to overcome boredom u would have to read a book, or sleep, the latter would prove to be difficult owing to mosquitos here in india. i confess, such a situation is pretty common in our villages, but they have learnt to live without it. unfortunately people in urban india cannot do without electricity, neither can i....

I definitely can imaagine a day without electricity. We've actually been without it for sometimes 3 days or more in the winter before. I keep our house prepared because it usually happens at least two or three times during the year. I have a kerosine heater for back up heat, a propane grill so we can eat, jugs of drinking water, food, cookies, and all kinds of things in the freezer, as well as extra canned ready to eat food and things. We never get bored, there's always books, puzzles, or other things that we do to keep ourselves entertained.
