Your doctor will refer you, counseling can be free but there is a very long waiting list, you can pay for private counseling sessions to help you with your issues, the root of your depression but they can be expensive £30-£45 for a 50 minute session. Anti-depressants are freely offered but I found they only mask the problem like a plaster and once you stop the problem is still there. But everyone reacts differently to anti-depressants, they didn't work for me and had bad side affects. If you prefer not to go to your doctor you can get some excellent books about depression. Don't be embarrassed to reach for help, it is no shame and depression is very very common. Good luck and I hope you find the right help you need.
