Does chocolate spoil?

I also have chocolate sitting in my house for a really long time. I cant tell if its still good or not.

I'm sure chocolate will eventually spoil but it takes a very long time.

Taste it and see. It can spoil or get stale.

Hi ratty :) I think it depends on what you mean by "a really long time." Chocolate can be kept for more than a year, if you store it properly. After some time, chocolate can "bloom" or look sort of white but it doesn't mean it's bad. You can still cook with it, for example. I've read that it's best to store chocolate somewhere cool and dry where it doesn't touch any moisture (or heat, of course!). I don't believe you're really supposed to refrigerate chocolate but I've read that, if you have to, because of heat or humidity where you live, you should wrap it in a layer of plastic to keep in the taste.
