what catches people's attention more? hard news or entertainment?

news programs on tv always feature entertainment news or news about movie stars, rock artists, and other celebrities. i wonder if people watch these news programs just so they can watch the news about the celebrities' lives or if they're really concerned about what's going on in the country.

depends on the person, but people in general seem more interested in entertainment -- just check out the posts on here. I don't see too many people talking about nuclear proliferation on mylot -- but lots of people seem to have blue as their favorite color.

still, there are a lot of people on mylot who talk about serious stuff too. i've seen topics about american politics, religion, self-esteem, and all those hard, serious issues that can count for entertainment. and yes, i've seen discussions on nuclear proliferation, too.

I have too; however, the overwhelming majority of discussions tend to be on lighter subject matter. I don't see anything wrong in that. Matter of fact it's fun. But for every discussion on heavier issus there seems to be about a hundred posts of the "what's your favorite flavor of ice cream?" variety.

yep, i guess you're right. personally, it's more fun responding to more serious issues because they're more challenging.

It is sad really that news nowadays have more concentration on the entertainment news rather that real headline news regarding what's happening here and around the globe. I guess these entertainment news appeal more on the younger generation than on the older ones which makes me sad really.

but what do you thing makes entertainment more interesting than politics? it's not like we have the lives of celebrities have anything actual to do with our lives. is it possible that people more likely tend to dream about living the lives of celebrities than work hard to improve their own lives? than to get rid of war, poverty, prejudice and all the other problems in the world? when will they realize that pure entertainment's not going to help?

I like hard news. I could care less who Brittney Spears is sleeping with or any of that other nonsense. We have more serious things to concerned about.

me too, i couldn't care less about what britney spears is doing at the moment. there are a lot of problems we should focus on, like global warming and poverty and world wars. but sometimes, this hard news can be too serious at times that people have already become sick and tired of thinking about these issues. i feel that way sometimes, too. sometimes i think why should i immerse myself in issues like these when the government doesn't even care about us and in the end, even though i get involved, nothing will happen? i don't know. i think all the politics in the world has made a lot of people apathetic.

i guess it depends on the age of the person watching it. for most adults, current events are important to them and young adults and teens prefer to watch entertainment news. having entertainment news as part of the daily news show is an added flavor so the show wouldn't be boring.
