Have you ever been to a Parade?

As a child growing up in New Jersey I wanted to experience the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, yet that never happened as my sister was sick in the Hospital for a few years and became disabled. When I moved to California I watched the Hollywood Christmas Parade, that is done on Sunset and Hollywood Boulevards and always takes place the Sunday of the Thanksgiving Day Weekend. It would be nice to see the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena. I enjoy watching the news reports of the volunteers putting together the floats and then they show the people sleeping and camping along the parade route. My sons both are on the autism spectrum disorder and have no interest whatsoever in parades, so that will never happen. I liked watching them on TV as a child and later in life, but now hardly get to as both kids have dibs on the TVs and I am on the computer. Have you ever attended these or other city or state parades? Did you sleep overnight to get a seat, was it really cold out? Share your experience and if you would do it again.

We have small parades in our town, but I haven't been to one since I was in the homecoming parade for my Junior year of high school in 2002. Our parades aren't ever very impressive, usually just a big group of people walking down the road with not many fun things to see.

We usually go to the Christmas parade in our town. And my boys are in cub scouts so they are usually in the veterans day parade. We've never been to one of the really big ones, but I think that would be fun. When we went to disney a couple of years ago we saw the daily parade there. They were nice. The best one was the one the Magic Kingdom had at night. Everything had thousands of lights on it. Even the costume lit up. It was really beautiful.

I've been to a few parades in my time, mostly during my childhood. I've never been to any of the famous or really large parades though, just small perades put on by a small town during special holidays, like Christmas. I remember I used to enjoy going to the Christmas parade the most because they gave the most candy!! I still would like to see the Disney parade in Florida, I hope that someday when I have kids I can take them to see that.

Yes, some of my best childhood memories are going to the parade with my dad, which were precious because my mom and dad later divorced. It was cold and we walked to the parade, it was a couple of blocks away from our house. Also, I used to be a baton twirler and performed in a few parades when I was a teenybopper. You should find a friend who wants to go to a parade with you and make a day of it.

I always hated parades on TV but I do enjoy going to them in person. We have many parades in our local town. Each holiday there is a parade and they have a parade for the Woodchopping Festival. People come from all over the world for the woodchopping parade. They compete in various woodchopping skills. It is just a small town. It has one traffic light and it is not needed. LOL I would love to go to the Macy's Day parade someday but like you, I will never get to go. I have never been to the larger, televised parades.

Every year when I was a little girl my mum would take me and my sister in the city in Melbourne every year for the Mommba parade, she would get us a spot in the front and be all squashed up in the centre of the crowd, when I think back on all the little things my Mum & Dad did for me I think how wonderful they were.
