That's because Asus motherboards are well known to have problems. It's not a problem with his AMD processor.

The AMD Athlon was the best processor for over 5 years. AMD was especially well known for blowing Intel away in games and video editing software. For tasks like typing and web surfing most people wouldn't see a difference between the AMD Athlon and Intel Pentium 4. Intel only recently took the lead away from AMD with the Intel Core 2 Duo. The Core 2 Duo beats the current AMD processors in every benchmark. I personally still consider AMD to be the better value since you can get an AMD Athlon for under $100 whereas the Core 2 Duos cost over $215. AMD motherboards are also much less expensive than Intel motherboards.

Intel is currently the leading brand, but it is not neccesarily the best. Persoanlly I would say amd make the best 64 bit processors as they seem to handle graphics much more efficient. I'm getting the amd 64 X2 with 2mb cache. I am not very sure about what motherboard and graphics to choose though.

AMD although having a lower clock frequency out pefrom there intel counterparts, they are generally cooler which provides longer life, they are renowned for being more reliavle in overclocking also due patrially to the heat factor but also due to the component tolerences used in the manufacturing of the AMD chip compared to the intel chip. I remember a long time back swaping to AMD when it first came out and relising the diffrence in what u get for you money. I have to say since I went AMD I have not looked back, but recently the new intel processors are also starting to look just as good as AMD

AMD gives better performance than Intel and the price is considerably low. AMD is know to handle graphics much better than its Intel counterparts. I use a AMD Athlon 64 3200 which i bought about 2 years back and it still outperforms most of Intel based pcs for sale.
