Why Do People Cry Over Football?

Sorry but am I missing something here, why do grown men bawl when their team loses, it's only a game and a very boring one at that. Yeah I know I'm strange being a male, but to me football is grown men getting paid extortionate amounts of money just to kick a piece of leather around a field for 90 minutes. Nurses save lives but do they get the wage a footballer gets? Crazy...

glory and gold. many people are driven to do what they do for fame and money. supposed you were in their shoes and you're about to win the championship title. you were so close in winning but failed. how would you feel? possibly heart-broken because your dream was torn from you in mere seconds. if i was in that situation i would possibly cry as well. you cry when you lose loved ones. playing a sport you love and coming close to winning something so grand that has been part of your dreams for so long would also cause you to break down and cry...would it not? sure i don't believe that celebrities should earn more money than doctors or others that really help in saving people's lives but everyone has to earn a living some way. and if someone is willing to pay them a large amount of money then there's not much we can really say. i don't really agree how you perceive the sport of football. sure it looks like all you do is kick a piece of leather around a field for 90 minutes. but have you ever played the sport yourself. the field is about 100 yards long. and if you were to run across it for 90 minutes trying to get the ball away from your opponents i would think differently. football is an endurance sport. there's a lot of strategy behind it as well and techniques you must learn. yes it is a game, but when you're playing a sport everything you thought about winning and losing changes. you become selfish and want to win so you push yourself hard to get what you want. some people even start to cheat and hurt others to win. but in the end, when you win, you have this great feeling that overcomes you. a feeling of success and accomplishment. possibly another reason why they cry when they lost. because it makes them feel as if they failed.

WHEN the final whistle is blown at a football match, many people are going to be emotional – some joyous, others gravely disappointed. I have always wondered myself why grown men cry or rampage through the streets when their team loses. Its just got to be a 'male thing'. lol But I suppose It is important that men feel able to express their emotions in whatever way they find most comfortable. Socialising and talking about your feelings are vital for good mental health and well-being, or so they say. Watching and supporting football helps men to connect and bond, and belonging to a club can offer them a sense of identity. Many people have made good friends and even met their spouses through football. Anyway I always respect a guy who isn't afraid to show that he's got feelings. Football is probably the most strenous team sport there is, so footballers have got to be fit and stay in tip top condition but i agree the wages they earn are just far far too much for what they do.

I have asked my friends that same question. I have many friends who cry when their team loses. I adore watching football and cheering on my team but I would never go so far as to cry if they lost. Perhaps it's because I'm also a Red Sox fan, the most loyal fans in the world. We never gave up hope that one day they would win the World Series. Every year that they didn't make it we would always say....Next Year. Footballers are like movie stars...they are boxoffice. The most popular seem to get the highest prices for their talent while some of the better ones struggle to get good parts. Marketing is more important that the sport itself. The only problem is when they pay out exhorbitant salaries the price at the box office goes up and so fans are sometimes forced to stay home and watch their teams on TV. Football is more than just kicking a ball around a field for 90 minutes. It is probably the most strenous team sport there is. You not only have to know how to kick the ball but you have to be a marathon runner, a hurdler, a gymnast and most of all a sprinter. It is a combination of all those wrapped into one. And 8 of the starting 11 have to have to strength to last as only three substitutions are allowed....the goalkeeper usually is the only one who is never substituted unless he is injured. After all that if you still think football is for sissies I think it's time to take a better look.

I would never down play the strength and endurance to be a football player or any other sport, I do not agree with their salaries. There are nurses that work 60 hours plus a week and are expected to have the job proformance as if she just walked into work. ER doctors are paid well, but no where near that of a football star, yet they stay up for days and nights on end because they are needed and have to have a good bedside manner to boot. Teachers have 20 to 25 kids they have to get to pay attention enough to get them to learn and quickly enough to satisfy the state boards tests...yet still try to keep their confidence up enough for the child to get the full benefit of the education. So, even though I agree that the athletes are amazing at their dedication to the sport...I think they are over paid for a job that does not have as much of an impact on the greater good. And yes, thank you for pointing out all that an athlete has to be. They are strength and endurance to the end. :) But so are doctors and nurses. :)

Um, because they just lost the motherload of money betting on the game. hahahah Could also be because they are ashamed to have put so much feeling into such an assinine activity, hahahaha. Those are the only reasons I can think of.

well i do agree with you that a person saving life gets less and a person just playing a game gets more but the point here if not about money, its about where your interest is and the area of expertise you are working in.Yeh its wrong that nurses and likewise people get probably less paid but it doesn't mean that a footballer or circketer or any other sportsman should get less payment. It has nothing to do with it. Football is a game yes but its a full time employment, its like any other profession. You give your time and energy to persue your interest and to make thousands around the globe who are interested in this game happy and to promote your country sport activities.Obviously getting paid for it is a cherry on the top. Its a game yes but then any other job is just a job ryte??!?!what do you do in any other profession. Don't the bosses bawl when the subordinates don't do good at work?? Don't people normally throw the ball at someone else when they get blamed for some wrong doing in the office?? yeh there the ball is surely not of leather :P ..so you see a little of gaming is involved everywhere (: .. its just the perspective you see it with. The end-results are different for any job and thats the case here but playing sports is just like any other job for ex. in nurses profession you promote health , in football you promote your country's sports. Simple is that (:

I agree that it's crazy. Sports have just been given too much importance in our society. It's silly to care so much about a game. And it's silly to pay people who play games so much more than everyone else. And it's silly that all sports seem to run all year now. I much preferred it when baseball was in summer, football in fall, basketball in winter, and track in spring. Just think of what the constructive productivity could be if there weren't so many people sitting around hour after hour watching (and crying over) stupid games. A little is fun, but to get so serious -- nah!

Coming from a woman I dont get it either. I know alot of women are into some sports but not me. I guess they get paid alot because they are always hurt. They will be sorry when they become older they are just abusing their bodies.

people dont cry over football, they rather cry over the result which is emotionlly atached in a manner or two with them . at times a win for the team you support is hard to digest . a loss is hard to accept, these are all different chapters or rather colours of human nature which makes us unique... also keeps in the human or the child side of ours alive in simple terms innosence

Football (or sports in general) for some is part of life. Lots of the highs and lows of my life, and for many of my friends have coincided with how a particular sports team performs. It works the other way as well. If your team wins, then it's like you have just won. I don't understand why it's OK to cry or get excited during movies or TV shows but not sports. JLD
