If you had to sacrifice either your sight or hearing, which would you lose and why?

Well, if i have to lose one of my senses then i would prefer losing TASTE. Because if it is the other senses, losing them might jeopardise my life, but if it is taste it dosent. I will not sulk from eating certain foods because they are bitter or sour, and i will eat them all and can be healthy.

Definitely hearing, then I wouldn't hear my housemate moaning or going off on his little tirade or having a temper! When he's around I adopt selective hearing and only hear what I want to hear. Losing my sight would finish me off, it would be so devastating. Your eyesight is far more valuable than your hearing, you are more handicapped being blind than deaf.

I really wouldn't want to lose either..but if I had to choose, I would probably choose my eyesight..I need music in my life and the idea of not being able to listen to music hurts..

wow, that's a tough question...if i lost my sight, i wouldn't be able to see all the beautiful nature, my wonderful cat, and most of all, my family members...if i lost my hearing, i wouldn't be able to hear the laughter of the children, the birds singing, or beautiful music...i honestly don't think i could make a choice like that, and pray i never lose either.....you put out a really good question there, provokes a lot of thought.

thank you, yes it knocked me over, we take so much for granted and our only contact with the outside world is through our senses, it certainly is a decision i would never want to make for sure

I would rather lose my hearing. So much of our world is based on visiul things that to do so without it would be difficult. I wear contacts because my vision is extremely bad. I know what it's like to not be able to see to some extent. I would hate to lose it completly. With my hearing gone I could still do many things but without sight I'd be extremely limited.

whew that's a tough one huh? If i could only choose one from the two, id rather choose the sense of sight. I so love music but id rather spend my life seeing people i love and the sincerity there is in their eyes when they try to speak to me. Plus, i could live my life closer to normal as i can walk without aide, surf the internet, play and run wildly into the open.

hmmm.... for me i choose my eyesight, and i give it to the blind people who want to try to see the world, because we know that the blind people they are wishing too to see the light;)

I would not like to lose either of them, but if I had to make a choice it would be to lose my hearing, at least with my sight I would still be able to see and to read.

yes i think it is only when we study this idea that we realise just how integrated our senses are, i had never considered having to live without one of them until my wife (who has partial sight) asked me the other day, I dont think anyone would find it easy although i am told you adjust in time

my sight. if taken away, i can still feel things and imagine what they look like. but for me, nothing can replace hearing.

i agree we caqn always imagine sight as long as we have had it

It would definately be a hard choice, but I would sacrifice hearing. Sights are too important to me. I'd not be able to do my job, use the net, read or see the changing fo the seasons...
