When do you think you should have your child tested for a mental illness? My 21 month old son does not act like any of the other kids his age or does he act like my older son when he was that age. I am really concerned because his father suffers from mental illness and I don't want to miss something that can be fixed early in childhood.

If you have such concerns regarding your son's mental health, please talk to his pediatrician. If he cannot give you any answers ask him to refer you to a specialist. Good luck.

I have talked to my pediatrician and he continues to tell me that he is just acting normal for his age.

well he is only 2 years old give it a little more time and if you see that the behaviors is escalating consult another physician.
