My mom has lung cancer...

My mother was recently diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. I still haven't wrapped my head around it really. She used to smoke a long time ago but quit over 20 years ago! So why NOW does she have lung cancer? Its just so unfair really. There are people who smoke into their 80's and never get lung cancer. She is doing chemotherapy which has been really rough on her. I have to stay strong for her, for my father, and for my children who barely understand whats going on. Its hard for me to have to stay so strong when all I want to do is break down and cry. When I do break down and cry I'm criticized for not being strong. UG! Gosh this turned into a ramble...didn't mean to do that. I just feel so frustrated by the whole situation. Has anyone else been there? Any words of advice?

i am sorry to hear that. smoking is not the only cause of lung cancer. lung cancer can be also caused in kitchen by cooking smoke,or by asbestos, second hand smoke, family genes and even pneumonia.

I am going through this exact same thing. I just came home for the holidays and found out my mom has stage 3 lung cancer. She too is going through the chemo. It's been really hard on myself and my family. We've done a lot of praying and this has helped. It's still very difficult. If you want to message me I'd love to chat since we are going through the same thing. I could really use a friend who understands what it's like to see a parent go through this. You can email me at bette1981@gmail.com . I'll pray for your mother and your family. :) Hope to hear from you soon.
