a lot of drugs fro depression have the side effect of causing suicidal thoughts or actions, so should the medicines that we take to help us controll our depression still be taken or should the health perfessionals need to find a new and better way to help us through our depression

I know that with the depression I suffer from, the medication is very important in me being able to live my life everyday. Yes some medications have terrible side effects but there are some that don't. I have changed my medications more times than I can count but I do know that I am in worse shape when I do not take the medicine. I have a wonderful counselor now and have been able to take lower dosages of my meds.

Medication for Depression can help. But it is important to also get some form of therapy along with the medicine. You are Treatin the symptoms but you need to see what is causing it as well.

Ecactly. Medication is not a cure all but it will help you win the fight. Medication along with therapy (counseling) is the best weapont to fight true depression.

i totally agree but the more you try to find a psychologist to just talk to the more they try to put you on more pills. like i am bi-polar and my whole family wants me back on meds and i dont want to be.

The medication does help, but during the first few weeks it can make it worse. They need time to work it's way into your system and then after about two weeks you will start to feel better. They take about 4-6 weeks to be completely helpful. I have been depressed for years and I didn't want to take any pills but now that I have I am glad that I did. I have been on them for almost a year and I feel great.

In my own experience...i have had clinical and major depression for about five years....it comes and goes!It is very difficuult to manage...because things could be going great in life for me yet i cant find my self being happy...so it sucks!I tryed 3 different anti-depressants and honstly...they made me worst!!I have sworn no matter how depressed i get i wont ever take them again and i encourage people with the same problem to find other methods to help them....physitrist,music,going for a walk, talking to someone...just i dont recoment taking anti-depressants.Plus it doesnt help that they are coming out with new studies to prove that anti-drpressants can be very dangerous to adolesents and youth!

Well for depression, medicines are not solution. Do Meditation, try breathing exercise, it will help you balance and handle depression.

there isn't relaly any medicine to help with depression. you might think it is helping, but all it is doing is making you feel happy. it isn't fixing the depression. it is hiding it. so that you don't notice it anymore. you take a pill, and certain chemicals are produced in your brain that make you think that you are happy. even when you aren't. i dont take medicine anymore, other than pain killers for a headache or something. i believe it is all in your head.

I am not up to date with the recent antidepressants but when I had to take them several years ago for a period of about 10 years, I noticed that most of them caused me to feel very lethargic yet at the same time restless. I couldn't concentrate on anything and it affected my work. The greatest negative effect though to me is the weight I gained taking them. It caused me to eat alot and since I love food that really made my weight escalate alarmingly. And that, gave rise to more depression...

i think they do help but i have noticed with the people i know who take antidepressants it changes their personality. they are never the same person again. rather like a time bomb which has not properly been defused, theres always the fear it will go off . the same applies to anti deps. they mask the real, problem but they donrt cure it , i would advise counselling as well as medication.
