The new reality show started last night on NBC, where they are selecting people to appear in a new Broadway show on Grease. Did you like it? Do you think it has a chance of doing well? What are your thoughts?

I only caught bits and pieces of it as I was doing things around the house. I did hear some bad singing and also one that sounded really good. I think it is a good concept and that the show will be popular.

I think it will survive, but I don't think it will be as well done as American Idol.

I never heard of it! I was thinking this discussion would be about the song (which I love). Sounds ok... but I think I've got enough reality shows to watch.

You could be right... I am sure I have enough on my plate as it is, but anything new and interesting will grab my attention at least for a short while!

I think it has a chance. It really depends on next week's episode. If it is strong and funny, then it will be a hit. All the 35-45 year old people remember when it was in the theater and they wanted to go to that school. I will definitely give it a chance.

You are probably 100% right that episode #2 could make or break the show. I will be watching to find out. :)

Grease - Grease
I didn't think it was too bad. Maybe once they get into the Grease Training sessions it will be better. It was more of an overview than anything last night. I love Grease and I could see how some of those people could really do it! One thing the judges and America (once it gets to that point) needs to remember is that the people that they are casting do not have to look exactly like the original cast. I think they got hung up on that a bit last night.

Yeah the first episode seemed a little slow, and almost too much like American Idol. So, I am hoping that when they actually start the "academy" that things start to get exciting.

I thought the 1st show was O.K., but I don't think it will last another season, even if they do start auditions for another play.

I really hoped that I was going to be excited about this new show "Grease: You're The One That I Want", because I _love_ musicals. Grease isn't my top favorite musical, but I still thought that the program would be extra exciting to me because musical theatre is a big part of my life and is a huge passion of mine. I was dissapointed, though, with what I saw of the show so far. I know that i only got to watch bits and pieces, but I am already worn out of the American Idol format of reality shows - and this show, while seeming to emulate Idol in some ways, totally lacked the spark that Idol seems to pull off so well. I'm just hoping that when we get to the live voting portion, things will get more exciting. I'm going to keep an eye on the show, anyway, either way, because I'd really like to see who wins! ^_^

Yes... American Idol really set the standard, and now dozens of reality shows have tried to copy the same format. I can only hope that when this show progresses to the song/dance part that it becomes even more interesting!

i know i liked it because i love the movie grease and i love broadway musicals. i'm not sure how many people will actually watch it though. my favorite part on it was the couple who auditioned and they said if only one makes it they would support each other anyway, then the girl broke up with the guy cause he made it and she didn't that was sad but funny at the same time to see how terrible she reacted.

I watched the show and thought it was ok, but it didn't make me say have to see it every week. The show goes slow and hopefully this week will be faster. Some of the people really couldn't sing or dance and its hard to believe, so many people try out for shows like this and just don't have the ability to be selected. The show should have reduced the number of people we would see and had the better ones perform a little longer, so we could start to know them now.

i think its stupid why wuold a show that had such a good hit hire rookies for broadway why not get seasoned veterans to do what they want

After tonight's live episode, it looks like it's going to be a much better show. Now that the group is whittled down to the best, it's fun to watch them perform. I have favorites already.

After reading all of your post I'm glad I missed the opening night of the show. I completely forgot it was coming on so I didn't see it till the 2nd week and I enjoyed watching everyone trying their best to live out there dream to become "Danny and Sandy". I hated to see a few of them get cut that I thought maybe might have looked good in the part, but they didn't have the training to get it done in the time they need to. I think all reality shows have some sort of a chance, as I personally would rather see them than some of the other garbage that is on TV.
