My cats know when I am coming home.

We have indoor outdoor cats. Often they go out at 1:00 pm when hubby leaves for his job. When I pull in they are usually waiting at the driveway for me to pull up, or they come running as I am pulling up. I think they know how the car engine sounds and can hear me a long way off. Our drive pulls through all the way from a parking lot and alley to the main street. We always drive in the back, and that is where they meet me. Do you think it is their hearing?

My cat does something similar. She seems to know when it is time for me to get home from work. She waits for me on the edge of the couch looking out the window onto the driveway. When I am late and call my husband, she readjusts her timing and goes to lay down for the 20 min it takes me to get home.

I'm not sure what triggers them to know you are arriving but I know it happens. I am home all day right now due to a disability. My mother comes home from work around 5pm everyday. So I used to think that the animals in our house just knew it was that time of the day. However after being out of work for over a year now. I know that's not it. Before my mother is even at the end of the driveway, one of the pets alerts the others that she is near. Usually it's my mother's dog that starts whining, and barking near the door. Sometimes it's my Macaw that will loudly announce "Hi" and then if the dog was asleep, she jumps up and begins the "Ma's home ritual". Sometimes it's my cockatiel that starts chirping or wolf whitling that starts the dog the same way. This doesn't just happen at 5pm. It doesn't matter what time of the day it is. If they start you know Moms home...it never fails..Very srange don't you think.

Cats are creatures of habit, I have not set my alarm clock for the past 2 years and every morning (unfortunately he does this on the weekends too) my white cat wakes me up by jumping on my chest and getting close to my face where his whiskers tickle me .. who says you need an alarm clock when you have a cat that can do the job just as well.

You are right, we have our cats blocked downstairs, but one of them comes up and scratches on the door just before the alarm. He is upset on days I sleep in.

Just a few months ago we got CJ, basically his first pet; at kitten. We got him at the local animal shelter. He was from a litter of kittens that were found under a train box of sorts, so they called him, Box Car Willie...lol CJ went with us and he was amazed at all the cats and kittens that were there. It was something new for him. When we got home I asked him what he would like to name kitten; he had wanted to get a 'tabby' but they didn't have any that weren't taken, and he had misprounounced 'tabby' as 'taffy' earlier, so we agreed he would be, Taffy... Taffy knows that when alarm goes off, I'm up and headed for CJ's room and he's way ahead of me. He jumps up on his bed and meows if he's not awake; he stands at the open door and watches him get on the bus as well as being at the door when he gets off bus. Cats are smart, if you ask me...lol

Wow what cute cats u got. I used to have a cat before. But it is not as smart and tamed as the cat you've got. It just ..... ran away .... and I never see her again. LOL. There's something my cat's very good in. That's eating. I have never seen a cat eating that much. Really hope that she knows when i'm coming home. Normally I will just see her sleeping or eating when i'm home. LOL.

My cat greets me when I pull into the driveway. I think they do hear the car and know it is us! Years ago when Bliss and Twit were alive, they would sit in the window facing the driveway when they heard us pull up. I miss them so much.

I always think that aniamls are far more intelligent than humans!! Certainly my 5 cats always know when I am coming home! Agreed I am usually home at around the saame time each day, but my partner comes home at different times depending on his shift at work, yet they always get up and walk towards the door about 2 minutes before he comes in. Seems they can recognise his car engine even as it turns into the street!

Cats are cute and smart pet. My pet cat Mimi will appear at the gate side everytime when my car come near the gate. She can distinguish between my car engine sounds and others. I like to watch her stylish and elegant movements.

I have often said that my cat has learned the sound of my car, as if she is outside when I leave it seems everytime I come home I will see her running to the house when I come up the drive. I have a long drive and there is a lot of noice from other cars as I live in a city. She always knows that it is me and always beats me to the front door. When I get out of my car she is there talking to me. Yes I think that they do learn what our vehicles sound like.
