What is the main thing that makes you want to lose weight? Is it the public's reaction to you, or is it something inside you that tells you you're just not in shape? I think it's a little bit of both for me.

The main reason I have to lose weight is due to sugar diabeties and I have lost 1 stone so far, so it is not for the public's reaction but for my health sake.

I want to loose about 10 pounds so that I will feel better. I am getting so out of shape. The way other people view me is of no importance to me. I do care what my husband thinks but nobody else. I find that I dont ache as much when I am about 10 pound smaller and it is easier to tie my shoes. LOL

For me its because none of clothes are fitting, my baby is almost a year old now and i've gained more weight now than i did when i was pregnant, so when I went to buy new clothes, and had to see myself in the full length mirror trying on clothes that was it for me, i never bought anything and i'm won't until i lose weight

It's kind of the same for me. I bought alot of new clothes a few months back, and it got to where I just didn't fit in them, and it wasn't my washing machine/dryer. So, I've put those clothes back and am waiting until they can make their re-entrance. Good luck with yours, though!

Me also. My clothes don't fit me anymore. I have my favorite clothes but can't wear it now. It took me long to choose clothes at store when buying because i hardly find my fit. And it doesn't look good on me. So, i think i need to lose weight but i just gained a lot.

I think when I always keep myself busy with a lot of job. When I'm busy, often I forgot to have some meal. And it really2 lose weight. The conclusion is, more you move your body, more you will lose some weight. Another cause is when I thinking bout something hard.

I do alot of cleaning and such around my house, and the constant moving helps, like you said. It's just getting the will power to do it that kills me. Thanks for your comment!

yeah i agree. by doing lots of things and start to move around and be active, you can lose weight. that is a very efficient and cheap way. and you can finish lots of work! 2 in 1 solution. Voila!

The main reason I want to lose weight is to "blend" in more in society. I've been overweight and made fun of most of my life and when I care too much what other people think sometimes- it hurts. Sometimes I just want to be invisible which is why I want to lose weight so much. Of course health reasons are the most important. But sometimes I wish I could just chip away the ugly outside so people could see outside the beauty that's inside.

I know how you feel. I have felt this way before too. It's nice to be one of those people who just go about without getting any of those 'looks'. You should try to move more. Though I'm guilty of sitting in front of my pc the whole day. It would somehow help if once in a while, you go out and move around. Plus try to trim out the food. Do some diet. And avoid starving yourself, it wouldn't do you any good since it makes you want to eat more. If you are hungry, go get a bite (not a whole meal). It is said that eating all the time is healthier than eating a lot in a single meal. Plus do some moving. =) Good luck to us!

I agree with you. It's both. You yourself can feel that it's not good anymore as you face yourself in the mirror or as you go up the stairs (notice that you're gasping for air? lol). Then, you will be more convinced that you have to lose weight as your old friends react to your size! lol

Although I don't have to lose weight because I have an average weight, but if I were in a situation where I really have to lose weight, it would be for health reasons.

I don't really worry too much about how people see me, but I do worry about being out of shape and tired too often. That is my best excuse to lose some weight, because I want to be fit for playing sports, and I want to be able to stay up late at night.

losing weight is not as big as an issue with me as staying healthy is,although they are pretty much interconnected. i got a pretty good BMI of 21 and weight doesnt bother me that much(except the damn lovehandles that refuse to go away). i strive to remain fit for my own personal satisfaction. i like being in shape(even though round IS a shape, but it is NOT an option!!!) and something feels amiss if i dont work out for days. the public reaction doesnt bother me,for i am at peace with myself and the world can just stick their judgments up where the sun dont shine. as you put it,its the something inside me that tells me that i'm not in shape and i just cant ignore that pesky voice for too long. people should lose weight for their own well being and health, and not for the sake of appeasing others, for there is NO satisfying others.

Well!health is wealth! There are more chances to get diseases when you are fat.The fear of deteriorating health is the main thing that makes me want to lose weight.

I'd really like to be healthy, and being a bit over weight makes me think that health isn't in the picture. I at least want to look better in my clothes, and have people compliment me on it. Being told that diets are working makes me want to work harder, and knowing that I look and feel better helps too.

I think the main thing you mean shoulfd be the public reaction to you and what the others think of you. In China ,Tang Dynasty, people regarded fatness as beauty and those who are very thin had no position in society at that time. Nowadays , people put more emphesis on others' opinions and more fashionable, so I think if nobody comments on your weight ,just be yourself!

we cannot deny the fact that we would always like to look good, that we are vain in some way, that we like it when others appreciate us. but losing weight comes with it other health benefits. you become less likely to suffer diseases which are highly associated with obesity. exercising also releases certain neurotransmitters that sets your happy mood. so stay in shape and be happy.

It feels good to receive good comments on how we look. Or how we are staying on shape. Looking good and feeling good to the public is one that can inspire us... So let's keep all in shape it is also healthy.

Wow, nice discussion ;) Since elementary school, i started gaingina lot of weight. I stopped physical activity, and ate more than i ever had. Suddenly one day i realized i was fat. It took my by surprise, and i was amazed. I started running, and havent stopped since my freshman year. I am now a junior, and very happy with myself! I run a lot, i work out, and i TRY and eat well. The biggest thing abotu working out for me staying in shape, but moreover, i have ENERGY. I feel like working out reallyr eally helps you keep alert and awake that day and even the next day. I feel wonderful after i run/work out, and it makes me feel better about myself.

In my case, after I gave birth to my eldest daughter, I was fortunate enough to lose all my excess weight and was able to wear my old clothes. But I'm not that lucky with my second daughter. When she turned 8 months old, I'm still 20 pounds heavy so I decided to do something about it. Before my daughter had her first birthday party, I was back in shape. Honestly, I don't mind what the people's reaction will be. I like to stay in shape because I can move around easily. Will it be nice to see people's reaction like surprise or impress with you coz you look thin despite 2 children.
