How do you stay motivated?

I just started working out again. I have been trying to go 6 days out of 7 every week for one hour. I was doing really good the first few weeks and everybody says it gets easier the more you do it but it is not getting easier it is getting harder. I really don't like doing it. 5 minutes on the treadmill seems like an hour to me. Although I must admit I do feel a lot better when I finish. I try to do it first thing in the morning. That way it's done for the day and I can put it behind me. I have known people that actually enjoy working out and it shows! I want to be one of these people. At this point if someone told me instead of working out everyday I could eat liver instead, I would choose the liver.

Ugh. I wish I had a treadmill. Try watching a good TV show while your on it, and hopefully you'll become distracted by it and forget your even working out.

Keeping motivated is essential and essentially difficult to manage. The key is usually to ge at least 2 other workout buddies so that at least two of you will normally show up at the gym together to workout. Comparing and contrasting your progress with that of your friends keeps you motivated to keep on working out.

your motivation is better health and you have to want this pretty bad to keep the motivation try cutting back to a half hour a day and do different exercises like one day you work the abs and biceps another day you work the hams and gltial muscles you have to mix it up loosing weight is apprantly very hard to do I got upto 275 pounds once and I was sick of it I wanted my life back so I started stretching and I realized that if I put on my favorite cd and done various exercises until it was done I didn't realize the pounds were coming off I got divorced ended up on foot and got all the way down to 165 pounds married again I weigh 211 pounds I say in my case its men and then you see something you want like an out fit buy it in a size you would like to be and work for it you can do it if you need someone to talk to I am here for you.

Always have a goal in your life to achieve, and u should have a positive mind, never ever feel that u cann't do it, have a hope that nothing is impossible by me, and then see u could do all the activities with ease.I think its the starting trouble with u other wise everything look great in your side. have the will that nothing can stop u.

read about work out books, try to work out with a friend so that you will not get bored... since you have someone to talk to when you are working out... working out alone is boring... you need to find a regular gym buddy

Good for you on your new work out problem. At this point in my life, I am unable to get into a good work out program because of my physical condition. I do stretching and muscle toning as I can. My need to stay motivated is mostly just to keep going, to get up everyday and take care of my family. Sometimes I can't get up and I just have to keep my mind busy. I pray, I read, I watch TV. I used to love to cook but now it tires me. When I am able I do some light house cleaning. My motivation comes from the fact that God has gifted me with people who love and support me emotionslly. God always comes through when we are in need of food or finances. My motivation comes from knowing God loves me and from reading His word and praising him at every opportunity.

I suggest finding an exercise routine that you actually like, maybe a dance routine, step arobics, running, jogging, walking, Yoga, Pilates, Turbo Jam, etc. If you dont like the treadmill, try to do something equivalent....if you absolutely have to do the treadmill, then play music, watch tv, or listen to a book on tape or cd. I think that it will motivate you more because you may look forward to it....the benefits will make you happier the more you stick with it, but be routine as you are and keep doing whatever exercise you choose at the same time each day, eventually if you find a niche with something you like, you'll want to do it more and more.

I think this is very good advice. It is always easier to do something that you enjoy, then you will actually look forward to it. The other thing you might consider, is having some kind of goal. For example, I participate in the Vancouver 10km SunRun in April. I went in for the first time 3 years ago, with a goal of finishing in under an hour and a half. Each subsequent year my goal has been to set a new personal best. Last year I had to withdraw because of my arthritis, but I have noticed that my new diet and exercise seems to be having a positive effect on my arthritis, as I have had no problems with my knees or hips for several months. I also take some very good nutritional supplements. My goal this year is to finish the course in less than 70 minutes. To do that, I have to stick to my program.

It is very difficult to get motived at first because adding in excercise is changing your routine. Even though you say that you don't have one, chances are you do have one. I would suggest trying to go four days a week rather then six. Jumping in and working out six days a week will burn you out fast. That is why it feels like it is getting harder to you. Cut back for a little while but make sure that you do something. You can even try cutting back on the time until you get used to it. Sometimes doing less is better at first. Also if there is any way that you can chage up your workout at least one day per week. Doing the same exact routine can get tedious and boring after a while. If you are only running on the treadmill trying going out for a run. If you are lifting, change up the exercises or the order of the exercises. Eventually you will feel more motivaed instead of tired when you start your workout. In time you will be able to wor out for an hour or longer, but give you body a chance to get used to it first. Hope that helps.

I am using a software to track my developments in my work out. It monitors my nutrition intake, my workout program and the changes or development in my body. The good thing about this is there are already sets of program exercise you can follow and plan food for the week. it is a good software for those who are working out

Well I think you must have a sense purpose and commitment.I see you have given working out as a high priority and that is indeed the best way to get started ... During your workout be aware of your dislike...let it pass by.Doesn't matter if 5 mins look like an hour just continue. To remain motivated; challenge yourself; 10 mins is what u spent today make sure u continue with it for a week or so .Later push your limits try for 15 minutes ... In the whole process be mindful of what u feel, how it feels, how it affects u. Observe your 'self'. I know it hard and may sound un-realistic ..but remember your priority to keep in shape...

daily work is always boring if we are already familiar within it... If we can't find chanllenge or excitement from work, I think it is hard to stay motivated.. but in order earn some money fro living, we have to work and endure boring things.
