I live in Charleston, West Virginia, USA. It's the state capital and has the Kanawha River running down the middle of it. Every late August we have a festival called "The Sternwheel Regatta" (a sternwheel is one of those huge Mark Twain or modern gambling boats with a huge paddle wheel on the back or sides that moves the boat). For 4 days there are sternwheel boat races and tours, a carnival, local crafts and foods, shows and concerts. Sternwheelers come from all over the US. Local people motor to the main dock to show off their boats or yachts. A huge fireworks display ends the celebration on the last night. What is available in your location?

I live in Thunder Bay, Ontario. (Canada for those unsure) This is by far one of the most beautiful cities I've ever seen, and one of the most abundant in natural scenery. Thunder Bay is a port city, built on the harbor of Lake Superior. The view from the marina is of the Sleeping Giant, an enormous rock formation that appears to be a man sleeping in the middle of the lake. Throughout the city are numerous water and park areas, but on each edge of the city are natural rock formations from the city being built into the bluffs. Kakabeka falls is to one side, featuring beautiful waterfalls. The other end of the city showcases the cascades and Trowbridge falls, both a series of smaller waterfalls in succession .. that are absolutely gorgeous in the summer and fall. Aside from the scenery, Thunder Bay is a city that loves to entertain it's citizens. We have annual Summer in the Parks, where each Wednesday night local musicians perform on stage at the marina free of charge to the public. We have an annual Blues Festival, Folkfest and many other mini festivals throughout the year to draw crowds. And to top it all off, we have a cool name, lol.
