Some falls prey to peer group pressure and some by bad guidance that it releases tension. Some youngsters fall into this habit just because of their favourite cinema stars. Somebody believes that having atleast one bad habit is quiet natural.Somebody thinks this increases their personality and style among their same age group.

Peer pressure, they think its cool, etc etc. If they wanna smoke, let em. Its pretty much the same as drinking. It injures your body but people still do it. I find it annoying when people get onto smokers about their habit, its their choice... leave em alone. I personally don't smoke but I don't care if others do.

Why do people eat bad, or drink coffee, or use microwaves, or go to tanning saloons? we eat bad because it feels, and tastes good. we drink coffee because its s stimulant. we use microwaves for convince. we tan to impress others. At least three of the things i listed are dangerous to your health, including the possibility of cancer. So to answer your question its not always peer pressure, sometimes your parents do it and you start, and im sure there are other reasons. So can you honestly tell me you dont do anything that makes you feel good, that is bad for your health?

I was into smoking for few years. Thankfully out of it now. The real motivation for me was to get over all the tensions. Soon I realized that it was only a temporary digression and was doing no good to me.

this is one of those questions i will never be able to figure out no matter how much i tried. i had started smoking at the age of 15. i didnt know why i did this, maybe it was my curiosity to try things in life rather than the lack of knowledge. this single event in my life was responsible for a lot of mistakes i made in the future. now, after having matured enough, i have realised that it was something i loves, it gave me a certain high but it also was killing me. i have stopped to smoke now after having smoked continuosly for 4 years. i feel like a new person, having emerged as a winner in life, but i still feel like smoking , and so i smoke once in 2 weeks and thats not bad or atleast not as harmful as my previous habit of a chain smoker.

I am not saying that smoking is bad for you, but it also has some positive effects too. I can't remember what they were, and they definitely do not out weigh the bad, but I found it interesting that you never hear of the positive effects of smoking. You probably can find some examples by googling a little bit.

I smoke for two reasons... To relieve the boredom... and to be able to deal with the stress caused by the stupidity of humanity in general. Yes... after smoking for 37 years... I am addicted. Do I care if I die from it? No I don't. Because if I don't die from smoking... I'll die from something else. And I prefer to die from something that I enjoy doing than being run over by a bus because I was too old to cross the road fast enough to miss the bus.

Addiction, stupidity, and a sense of immortality. I don't honestly know, as a health educator.
