does evil exist or is it really just the absence of god?

To even considering that question, one would have to prove the existence of a god. Since it can't BE proven, but we know there to be evil in the world, then a connection between the two isn't able to be made. Evil exists, but not in an individual sense .. meaning, it's not it's own entity. It exists in the people who carry out the acts classified as evil. Hitler was considered an evil man, and he believed in God. For that matter, he believed he was doing Gods work (see Mein Kemph), so quite obviously even in the presence of a God, that he believed in, evil people do what they like. People act according to their own code of ethics. What he saw as righteous and good, the rest of the world viewed as evil. For that matter, non believers of God are often called evil, simply for lacking a belief in the unproven. Evil is just a construct that depends on the interpretation of the person using the word. Some people do things others classify as bad .. that's the basis of the entire 'evil' arguement.
