I'm a diebetic and had to taka a shot of insulin every meal and at bedtime. I hated taking all my supplies everywhere I went and I hated the shots. I went to a diebetic school and they said since I was type 2, if I lost weight, I'd probably not need the shots. They put me on a diet, but I went one step farthur. I became a vegetarian. They wanted me to eat 1200 to 1800 calories. I thought this was not enough and went down to 800 or less. I lost 4 to 5 lbs. a week with no side affects. After 15 weeks, I didn't need to take shots and used oral medication only. After 27 weeks, I had lost 112 lbs. and take no medication at all. I've kept it off for 2 years now. My chloresteral is 115! I have so much more energy. I didn't realize how much 112 extra lbs. weighed you down. For those on a diet it's how many calories you take in vs. how many you burn. No big secret. Good luck!

I just want to say congratulations on the weight loss! I've lost around 20 lbs two years ago, and I know it's nowhere near what you lost, but I know the rewarding feeling that occurs after the hard work!

800 calories is really low. You didn't get ill from eating such a small amount? How did you stave off headaches, dizziness, etc? How much exercise did you do?

Good for you. I am a diabetic myself. I have managed to lose the weight that got me into trouble, too. But I did not do the fantastic job you did, nor as quickly. I definitely agree that keeping it off is the way to go. Have you tried exercise in addition to the diet? On the days I really work out I have to be careful with my medicine so I do not go too low. I also have seen little signs that exercise and diet is better than diet alone even when your blood sugar is about the same either way. It's not in any medical books I'm aware of, but I am convinced that diabetics need exercise for optimal health even if their blood sugar is under good control. Anyway, good for you and keep up the good work.

Yes, I exercised every day and still do. I ride my bike 10 miles every other day and exercise with Denise Austin's tapes. (mostly for a flat stomach) The tapes work and I have abs of steal! When I went to diebetic school, they taught me that exercising after every meal will lower my blood sugar. They said even a 20 minute walk after supper will make a difference. Keep up the good work and good luck!
