Please note, my intention is not to start a debate about monarchy's .. just to pass on a few not so well known facts about the present Queen of England A statute from 1324 says the Queen still owns all the whales, dolphins and sturgeons in UK waters ... The Queen is the first member of the Royal family to be awarded a gold disk ... 100,000 copies of the CD of the 'Party at the Palace' were sold in under a week In 1997 the Queen opened the first official Buckingham Palace web site http://www.royal.gov.uk/ The Queens wedding ring was made of Welsh gold from the Clogau St David's mine near Dolgellau The Queens first pony was a Shetland pony called Peggy So far the Queen has launched 23 ships and opened 15 bridges and is patron of more than 620 charities and organisations And to finish ... since 1952 the Queen has conferred over 387,700 honours and awards .. I think mine has got lost in the post though

I failed dismally in history at school, I never knew why I took the subject, I was hopeless at it, trying to remember all those kings and queens, dates, battles. The most enjoyable part of history for me was 1066 the Battle of Hastings and the reign of good old Henry VIII and his wives, now that I do remember well. I've never been a fan of the monarchy, so whatever I hear goes in one ear and out the other. You've certainly dug up some informative stuff there Toots!
