Deep Breathing For Weight Loss?

I have been listening to Anthony Robbins and he mentioned a great way to revive energy. It is basically a 1-4-2 method of breathing. You breathe in through your nostrils for four seconds, hold it for 16 seconds and slowly exhale of eight seconds. It works for any ratio using one four two... Before that, I had never heard of this method. Since then, I have seen it all over the place. Yoga, pilates, meditation methods. Has anyone ever lost weight doing this? Or is this mainly for getting oxygen into your bloodstream. Keith

Sit in a comfortable position, preferably in padmasana. Exercise the diaphragm by exhaling suddenly and quickly through both nostrils, producing a hissing sound. Inhaling will be automotive and passive. The air should be exhaled from the lungs with a sudden, vigorous inward stroke of the front abdominal muscles. The abdominal stroke should be complete and the breath should be expelled fully. While inhaling, no willful expansion is necessary and the abdominal muscles should be relaxed. This exercise should be done in three phases, each consisting of 20 to 30 strokes a minute. A little rest can be taken in between . Throughout, the throacic muscles should be kept contracted. Kapalbhati enables the inhalation of a good amount of oxygen which purifies the blood and strengthens the nerve and brain centres. This kriya provides relief in many lung, throat and chest diseases like chronic bronchitis, asthma, pleurisy and tuberculosis.

I just tried some of this particular exercise. Hmmm, I admit that it does pretty well. I feel light headed, but I also feel a bit refreshed. Is that the gist of the exercise?

I've heard of the deep breathing exersizes to lose weight, but I'm not sure how well that really works. Breathing exersizes in Yoga help keep you focused, and work on stablizing parts of your body. Deep breathing with Yoga will help you lose weight. I can tell you that much.

i have an old tape series called "OXYSIZE" its supposedly the weightloss during breathing. the only thing i think it really does is tone your body and tighten the skin...and make you dizzy if you do too much of it. basiclly holding a a position is a lot harder on your body then doing sets of something which is why things like pilates and yoga are popular. i have just started doing those type of things...but i'm not going back to the breathing thing. it was kind of weird and never really worked for me. the important part about weight loss is to find something that works for you.

You hyperventilated? Damn! I guess I will have to be careful with how fast or hard I start to breathe.
