Viscious beast!

I have a kitten, she is about 5 months old and she is viscious. Today one of my friends brought over one of his Scottish Terriers and my cat just arched up and hissed and spit. She wouldn't even let them out of the house. The dog was wailing and hiding from her and when I went to touch her she attacked me twice. Then after they left she curled up at my feet like nothing was the matter and went to sleep. She attacks anything that moves though and skulks around corners to attack your ankles. She has taken to climbing the kitchen cabinets to see what you are doing on the counter. My fiancee' says that this is just a phase but she has been like this for months. Ever since we got her. What do you think I should do about this viscious beast?

If this has been going on for months and you are sure it's being viscious and not her trying to play it sounds like you have a mean cat. It does happen on occassion. My mother's cat is like that. Even after 4 years it is still mean. Attacks anyone and everyone including my mother. You can try training her out of it but it might not work. Try letting her know when she is doing bad things, tell her no, tap her nose, you can even try a spray bottle of water. When she's being nice or good give her lots of love, maybe treats, let her know when she's being good. It might help.

I have tried most of your suggestions. She is just trying to play and being playful but even though I tell him not to the fiancee still plays rough with her. And she just loves to roughhouse with him

The fact that your fiancee plays rough with your kitten is making it worse. If this is the case then be resigned to the fact that she may always be like this... She may mellow after you get her fixed.

When ever you find the answer to this post it. I'm having so much trouble with my kitten that is around the same age. She now has this thing where when she wants to be held or whatever she wont run away. If not she wont even come around.

Yep, cats can be very persistent and thick headed when they want something. They certainly don't give up easy and not without "a fight" . Either way, she usually wins or gets a part of what she desires.

first of all no cat isa viscious beast.that said it is just aphase.i think that she is yet to settle down and sees everything as new.whats more anyone who comes into her area would be intruding.also the incident, well heres a tip.dogs and cats do not go together.her reaction to the dog is more instinctive than reactive.either way if it makes you feel any better take her to a vet!

well first of all a cat is not just a pet but also a very sensitive being.so make sure that you ask your vet for advice.then make sure that you give the proper care for her and all that.i am sure that this problem of hostility should go away soon, but do not expect andy miracles where the dog is concerned.

she isn't a vicious beast she's a predator.what she's doing is what cats do.she is young and not really experienced with her claws so she will grab out at anything that moves past her and some times she will scratch you.she doesn't mean to hurt you and in time she will become more gentle with you.My kittens will reach out and slightly scratch my arm as I go pass her now and then but she use to hurt, but now she doesn't.I have two kittens that were left alone in a truck and have nursed them from a month or so old.I really wasn't a cat person, but they are so wonderful I have to keep them. They climb on my counters so I don't leave anything out that they can get into and i keep their litter box clean so they will always use it for cats won't use a dirty box. After a while she won't bite the hand that feeds her only in play .

we just have this little female. She is obviously very territorial but she attacked me when I tried to stop her from attacking the dog.

oh yes some thing else,at night or the early morning if my arm is hanging off the bed,she will tap my hand ever so lightly until i wake up and feed her and they wake up every morning around 5am.The boy cat,Judah is very territorial and some people who come to visit he will take his paws and push them from his favorite chair.Never bring another male cat around a male cat because this will cause him to spray your furniture with urine to mark his territory.I had both of them fixed at 4 months of age and they are fine.

sometimes having another kitten around will help because the "evil kitty" will have a buddy to play with.

That doesn't sound like a phase, but her personality. Quite frankly, I'd get rid of her. She sounds too mean for my taste.

Females can be like that. My Goldie has her tendancies. I got my Goldie when she was three weeks old, she was a tiny little fluff ball kitten, and I love her like a daughter, but there are times where I wonder about her because she likes to start fights with my two male cats, Frisky and Dubby. She has some growing up to do. Best thing to do is put her in her place. If she is doing something that you do not approve of, hit her on the head or butt with a rolled up paper or magazine, do not hit her too hard, but hard enough for her to know that what she is doing is not right. It works with my Goldie, but then again, Goldie does not often get into trouble.

I have never been fond of cats myself. I think that they feel they are better than humans. That they own the house, and we just are there for them. I would get rid of her if she is already acting this way.

Hiya.. The trouble is you could be looking at 15-20yrs with this little beasty. lol OK Kittens will attack anything that moves, as they play and learn. But I think it's fair ( to cats) to say that if you have one that is scareing you, then you have a problem cat. Five months is long enough to let you know what kind of cat you've got. It can be funny, having a real butch cat that thinks it's top dog! It can also be a screaming nightmare. She is getting to the age when she can be neutered. Is this part of your plan? If not, then you cannot expect her to calm down too much as she develops, in fact she could become a real handful!! Personally, I'd want to get rid. But that's a whole new problem. I have two, very different cats, but they will both "disappear" at the first sign of trouble, which includes visitors and miraculously turn up again, when tranquility is restored to the house. We find this perfect, as it means we don't have the small children of visitors to worry about. Anyhow, if you are of a mind to wait a little longer, then neutering would be a good move since it should calm her down some and also, if she does have to go, she will be more acceptable as a neutered female. Since she may change, but I wouldn't bet on it. There's little else you can do. Good luck. I feel you will need it. lol

She's not a beast. It's perfectly natural. My cat (almost 5 years old!!) does the exact same! When a stranger/animal/anything you can think of as foreign, she becomes crazy and starts acting accordingly. But afterwards, she's behaving like nothing has happened.

Aww! She's just a kitten. I live with five cats that we've has since they were babies and I can pretty much gaurantee that all five of them went through that vicious phase as well. They just get scared and they don't know how to react, that's all. It's okay though, they make up for it with cuteness. :)

I'm sure she will calm down some as she gets older. The reaction to your friend's dog is pretty natural if she has never been around one, especially since it was in "her" territory. To keep her from scratching and biting at you, only use string or feathers on sticks or other toys to play with her when she is in "attack mode". Use a water bottle to squirt her when she scratches or bites you. This will teach her that toys are the appropriate thing to bite, not you. Sometimes, hissing at your cat when she does something that displeases you will also get the message across in more "cat like" language. I find that actually trying to strike the cat (even lightly) will sometimes make the problem worse, because she thinks you are playing her game and will continue rough-housing. The water bottle works great for many cats. I can just shake one now and my cat will stop whatever he is doing wrong and scrunch up his face because he hates water. Like others have said, your cat will probably improve some after she is spayed, but once she is over a year old, she will start to calm down even more, especially if you are consistant with her training. Hang in there!

She is not viscious. If you are not bonded to a kitty of that age, you should think about giving her to another family. Cats are not like dogs. They like it quite and no changes. You cannot bring another animal in the house (dog, cat, or bird) and expect her to accept it. She won't. It is natural behavior on what you mentioned in your post. Cats do not respond or grow happy if you yell or hit them. So dear, I suggest you do 3 things, call a vet about her behavior, buy a book about cats, or give her to a loving home. Good luck.

i have a 5 month old kitten too, she is not spayed yet, but she acts the same way except for the hissing and attacking. my kitten just attacks our feet from under the bed and jumps up at my 5 year old son when he is running through the house.

I had a cat quite a few years ago. She was black with a white front and paws and beautiful medium length fur. I just wondering if cats with this coloring are all beasts. I got my cat when she was a kitten and she was very bad and I think she felt she had to tear up everything in the house. When you pick up your new kitten or cat, if they are trying to climb the screen in the window, after they leave their cages, than you may have a bad cat and maybe you better leave that one in the store. I'll know next time. She never did outgrow this bad behavior. I had to lock her in the bathroom when I left the house because if I didn't the house would be a mess when I came back. When I was home I would watch her so she wouldn't get into any messes. She knew I was watching her so the behavior got a little better. She knew that I would get in her face and start yelling at her, so I don't think she like that. You have to show them who is stronger, them or you. She didn't like vacuum cleaner noise, though, and when I took her to the vet one day, she went ballistic because somebody was vacuuming. She was hissing and trying to attack the vet who finally got a firm hold on her. Other people's cats in the vet's office were perfect angels and mine had to embarrass me by acting like an idiot. She had to go eventually, because I got to the point where I could not take it.
