Do You Remember When When You Were Born?

The earliest that I can remember is when I was seven years old. Beyond that there is nothing that comes to my mind from my earliear years probably due to a traumatic upbringing. I cannot even remember any of my primary school days and often wonder how I got on. Still - Life goes on and the future looks bright at the moment.

From the child development factor, it is said that most children will not be able to recall memories that happened before the age of 3 (some rare cases prior to 3). I have some memories of special moments that I can recall that occurred around the age of three, but more focused memories I can recall start at age 4. It is true that sometimes traumatic experiences, while we are young, cause people to block out whole portions of their youth. In a way it is a coping mechanism that helps us endure the experiences.

It is true that I had as traumatic experience when I was younger but not to be able to remember anything about primary school is a frightening thought!

The first memory I have was at age 2. I remember my drunken mother driving us to the bar and she got stuck on some railroad tracks. I remember where I was sitting in the car and everything. My mom almost freaked when I brought this up to her. She's like "how in the hell can you remember that, you couldn't even of been 2 years old?" I don't know how~but I did. Weird huh?

By responding to this question you make me to think that I become older again with one more year in 2007.I cant say if is a good age or a bad age but some are calling this age a good one.At this age you are able usually to think more mature than others which are younger, but also you can be in the crisis of this certain age.You have to have a good family and maybe children. As for me at this age I have a family ,a driven license which usually you can afford to have at the age of 18 here in Romania,I have a job but I do not have any children yet.I would like to have and I think is the best age to be already in marriage life. Some says that the best age to be married is around 29 years old but this depends from country to country. If you can guess what age I have it is very good and if not I will tell you that I am 37 and I am thankful to God for what I have and done till this age!May God bless you all even if you are old ,young ,married or not married! So if you can calculate the year of my born you will see that I was born in 1970!

I can go back to age two and I would think that in hypnosis the furthest back a growing brain would remember would be two or three years old... beyond that I don't think anyone can remember.

I can't say as I can remember when I was born....but my mother never let me forget about that day. She said I came out screaming and kicking the whole time. I was the worst of the three of us. I remember when I was three years old of attending a garden party at a relative's house. Actually it took my mother to tell me that I was three. We were out for a Sunday drive and we passed a secondary road that we had done many times before. I was 17 at the time. I said to my mother that there was something about that road that haunts me every time we go by. I keep thinking about being at someone's house and there was a party and Dad was always chasing after me. And I remember that right after leaving the house to go home we had to go back because he had left his hat. My mother was aghast. She asked me how I remembered such vivid details....she said it was an anniversary party and that my father was chasing me because I was getting into mischief and acting up and that he had, indeed, forgetten his hat. It was then that she told me I was only three at the time. It's funny but that party still comes back to me every once in a while....it just doesn't want to seem to go away.

I remember the day my parents broad my sister home after she was borne. That makes me 3 years of age. I remember holding her on my lap on the day she got baptised, 3 months later. And I remember our house's front garden, with a low brick wall seperating it from from the street, and I remember running out of the house and standing on that wall the day we experienced a earthquake in South Africa. Before the age of three, I have no recollection whatsoever.

Nooooooooo... I can't remember when I was born, and I don't think I really want to... I got my backside smacked by the doctor, and that would have been quite a traumatic memory! lol. The farthest I can remember back is probably when I started school, and my early school days. There are just parts that stand out in one's memory, both good and bad, I think. I had a very happy upbringing... I'm sorry that yours wasn't the same, ((((Deeeky)))). I did well at school, and I had a lovely teacher, Mr. Barker, when I sat my 11+ and passed it. My days at primary and junior schools were very happy days. From then on, life became more difficult because I had to get streetwise, and develop into a woman. That's not easy, I can tell you. But hey, life is a series of tests, and I don't think I've done too badly so far. I just hope to be able to better myself and help others more and more, until the time comes to exit this world for a while. Nice discussion, my friend. Thank you. :-)

LOL... I had to check I'd not written Mr. Brown there! You getting me at it, Deeeky? ha ha ha. It was Mr. Barker... he was a very nice teacher. We did have one named Mr. Gumbrell, though, who was a demon! If you as much as twitched in his lesson, he threw a bean bag, or blackboard rubber at you... meanie!!! :-( Needless to say... li'l angel that I am, neither was ever thrown at me by him! ha ha ha. The comment was made genuinely... no need to thank me. You're a very nice guy, and quite welcome. x

Thanx for that very nice comment! Glad to hear that you had a very happy upbringing. Mr brown did you well in helping you pass your eleven plus and it is nice that you can remember one of your teachers. I have no recollection of ANY of my teachers and miss having any thoughts of them at all.

I rembered I was pecked by a chicken when I was 2 years old or so. But when I was born,I'd say that is imposibble, since our brain to keep memories is not "trained" enough to memorize.

I can remember lots of things from when I was a young child. I remember having 'milk time' at nursery and always excitedly waiting in hope that i'd get my milk in the bottle with a straw rather than a cup. I also remember going into the nursery's garden when it was snowing and our teacher telling us to pick up some snow and eat it to see what it tasted like. I also recall that the nursery had what seemed to be a huge indoor climbing frame, i'd love to see it now, I bet it was tiny.

I can only remember a few things from the age of 4. But I can remember all the important things... and more from the age of 7. Sometimes I bring things up from my childhood that my parents don't remember. I guess that you only remember what is important to you.

Nice to here from you from down under. If I come into some money I reckon Australia would be one of the first places I would visit. I guess that your memory has kept a good note of the good things in your life and that is great to hear.

I can definitely say that I have a short term memory..but the weird thing is, I can remember things as far as when I was just between 1 to 2 years old. Saw some baby pics, one had me inside my playpen wearing nappies and I swear I can still remember that instant like some de javu. I can even remember my own baby scent because of that pic.

Amazing what a picture can bring back to mind the memories of the past. They say a picture is a worth a thousand words, so your pics bring back some nice memories as well.

With you remembering the camera flashing it probably helped to put the pictures inside your head lol.

Yup, pictures do bring back old memories locked inside our heads. Its bizarre to even think that I remembered details such as the camera flashing, how hot it was that day, the mat of my playpen and someone's big hand wiping drool off my face.

I can only remember back to when I was about 5 or 6. Everything before that is kind of a blur. I didn't have the best up bringing either, so I don't reminense about anything before like the age of 10.

I was 2 & 1/2 yrs old when it happened.. we were staying in apartments in the 5th Floor. I remember those days when i threw the house keys of our neighbour out of the window when they refused to stay at our home and talk to me for some more time. They never found the keys after searching for almost 3hrs, i was a lot naughtier than anyone in my childhood.
