Auditions

My sister applied to American Idol and I never realized that they have pre-audition and the judges we see don't see all the people. I think with all of aweful singers we are seeing tonight, that it just made the whole show fake for me. They turn away singers that have a voice and they never get in front of the pannel so these no talent people can make fools of themselves on national TV.

I think the way they do that is wrong also. I think they should only allow people with the better voices through. It does get the show a lot of attention having the bad singers on it, but I would rather listen to all good singers as long as they are better than the ones I am hearing. I am also watching American Idol right now.

It seems that every season the singers get worse and worse to begin with, it like they are saying if you can't sing come in we will put you TV. I have watch American Idol from the beginning and it just seems to be going down hill.

I think that some of the contestants are just put on there to laugh at. I cant imagine them sitting and listening to thousands of people a day. They must have to go through some sort of pre- audition. I doubt all of those horrible singers would have seriously made it through a pre audition unless it was purposely for humor.

Right but do they tell them that or do they just put them through. I could not figure out why these people feel like they can sing and it is because they already made it past the first audition, why wouldn't they think that they can sing.

When you really look at all those people who apply, it's no wonder why they don't audition all the people. Can you imagine auditioning thousands of people in each major city? That'll take a toll on you. And they probably pick the real "characters" to perform that first round. I mean, really, have you seen some of those people?

Oh yes, I have seen them, I am still amazed sometimes at the lengths people will go.

Esty--------Future American Idol - This is a recent picture of Esty.
I'm also trying to get my daughter to audition. I heard you have to get there pretty early on otherwise if there are too too many auditioning, you get turned away.

Yes you have to get there early to get a number but once you have your number apparently you can go and get something to eat or whatever, they tell you how long it will be for you are called.

I agree with you. I think it's all about ratings and they realized after the William Hung thing, that the worse singers are the ones people want to see on the audition shows. I don't though, it got really old this past week. I hope they go back to showing more of the good auditions.

That's how things should be, it's because in any TV auditions, they always show the bad site before showing the good sides of the show. I agree guys, it's for the ratings. And I think those people who want to make a fool out of themselves deserves a place in National TV for all their effort. I'm not from US but I watch American Idol too, the audition is too funny!

I think they have gone a little over board this time, there are some really bad auditions.

They let the really bad people and the really good people in. I think it is wrong to, but the producers are in it for the money. If it was all really good people than the viewers will be lower meaning less money. So many people watch it for the hilarious auditions.

I am not saying cut them out completely, but do they tell the people they are really bad so they don't go in think wow they let me through I must be able to sing.

It is ALL about the television ratings. They seek out the people that dress outrageous and sing hideously because they know that is what so many Idol watchers love to see, so yes, in a way, it is fake. It's not fair to many thousands that can actually sing but get pushed aside for a freak show.

I can't imagine that they turn away that many people who have really great voices or people who would actually be right for American Idol. I think a preaudition in front of judges who aren't so famous is a smart thing. Randy, Paula, and Simon are big stars now. They can't sit there and see every fruitloop who wants to be in a room with them. I admit that the auditions this year are worse and it worries me about the future of American Idol. The judges look like they are getting burned on going through these auditions. How many more seasons can they take of listening to bad singers for hours on end?

Yes I agree that the preaudition is a good idea, but why let the bad singers through and turn away people with a voice?

yah, even in pop idol, australian idol, superstar, philippine idol, hopefuls need to pass the two screenings, after that they will meet the judges! WHY DID MAKE CRAZY PEOPLE PASSED? CAUSE IT ATTRACTS PEOPLE TO WATCH THE SHOW WHEN THEY SEE CRAZY STUFFS, ACCORDING TO FREMANTLE, THEY PASS PEOPLE IF THEY ARE NOT BORING TYPE

I honestly don't watch the first few shows during the auditions because I can't stand to see Simon criticize them on tv. I know they were naive enough to think they were good, but some of the remarks that are made are just plain mean.... My husband watches it and I will find something else to do while it's on. Then I'll watch it after they pick the ones to go on to Hollywood.

Yeah, I don't particularly think that the way they do it is right either, but I do see why they do it that way. They want to entertain people, and if all they showed on TV were the good people, they wouldn't have nearly the amount of people watching as they do now. The bad people are what makes this part of the show entertaining...as horrible as it sounds. That's where the entertainment value is, I guess.
