Assemblywoman Sally Lieber of Mountain View, CA has introduced a bill to the California Assembly. This bill looks to ban spanking and corporate punishment on children less than four years old. The law seeks to sentence offenders to up to one month in jail, or a one thousand dollar fine, for a first offense. There is, as you might imagine, much debate about this topic. Should you spank children? Why or Why not? Should the government be involved in this decision? Why or Why not? Who will suffer if a parent is arrested for a month? The child or the adult? What are your views. If you want to find out more about this topic and recent articles in the paper, most notably the San Jose Mercury News, do a search on google or yahoo under "Lieber, spanking" . There will be a myriad choices to choose from. In the meantime, what are your feelings on this?
