Do you wonder why each generation is getting taller and taller?

Growth hormones. Not the regular human ones that everyone comes with. NO! Have you heard ranchers and food producers refer to "Growing their livestock."?Do you know what that means? It means rather than waiting for the natural growing process to begin they accellerate the process by filling livestock (cows, sheep, even chickens) with growth hormones and other chemical compunds to make them "tastier". When you slaughter these doped out herds and put them on the table they are still full of all that growth hormone and laboratory made crap. This then stimulates the recipient of this kind of food to begin growing ahead of schedule. they also give them things tomake them husker and fatter. See a correlating "largeness" about our youth populations?

It probably has to do with all the chemicals and stuff we have introduced to our bodies. My daughter is 4 but bigger than most 6 year olds.

children are getting bigger and bigger and maturing faster and earlier than ever before. Ihit puberty at 8 and started having my monthlies two weeks before my tenth birthday. Mind you no one would say that a ten year old is then a "woman" and should be married off quickly but people used to marry their daughters off as ready when they started to have their monthlies.

It is the food and nutrition. Kids today get better food and a lot of nutrition so they get taller. I see kids taller then their parents so it is not just the gene which contribute to the growth it has a lot to do with food too.

Yes, people are more aware of nutrition and are packing more vitamins and minerals in to the kids than ever before . To your commentator it was more than just a few centuries ago that people wher e extremely tall. There are people that argue that back in biblical times people were between 10-12 ft tall and we have shrunk since then.

Wow that is funny. That is not the reason we are getting taller. It is just the natural way of things. People were much shorter 1000s of years ago and we just started getting taller over the years. You could say we are evolving. It started way before the "groth hormones" were put into the animals we eat. If that were true every generation would be getting taller but some get smaler or stay the same as their parents. It's mostly genetics that tells how tall someone will be.

I have to agree with you. It should be because we are evolving and our genetics just shows we are born to be tall. Im Asian and Im 5'8 and that's really quite tall than average Filipinos. But I dont think its growth hormones, its just the way my genetics were formed. My dad is 5'11 and my mom is only 5'6 but she is tall in her family already. Maybe growth hormones have something to do with some of other people's growth but I can't just picture it here in Asia where to my knowledge are still a little behind on certain technology.

hmm. im a vegetarian. by choice. but i like where your going. effects of genetic research which are slowly begin to show. unwanted results of course. but i think it was necessary at one point. you can't do anything about it of course. it had to be done with wheat and stuff as well, because things had almost come to famine. genetic research has helped provide things in surplus. it was needed. and as yet it's not possible for much to be said. nothing much has happened of course. i for one, would like to wait before i conclude anything from existing info. so people are growing. as long as it's not harming i don't see why it's bad. and you could always turn vegetarian if you find it THAT disturbing. im sure even if it is not perfectly 'clean', it's not as 'bad' as it must be with non - veg.

I did try vegetarianism for a year and a half yars ago the only impression it left on me was that I remember being hungry almost constantly for that year and a half. Though I had no trouble maintaining my weight then.

I don't like the additives in foods either but there is one thing you are not taking into factor....genetics. We have a predisposition to height from our genes. My family is on the short side. My grandmother was 4 foot 6, my mother 4 foot 10, me 5 foot 1 and my daughter is 5 foot one. My Dad is 5 foot 9 and my brother is 5 foot 11 my nephew is going to be 6 foot tall but his mom is 5 foot 7 and my brother is 5 foot 11. His grandfather is 6 foot 3 so that is where his height is coming from. Genetics play a huge roll in how tall or short a person is going to be. Like I said I don't like the additives in foods either.

I think you have made a lot of study and research in this subject and the awareness that you have about is commendable. But I question the validity of this research made by you. Is this really truth??then what about vegges that do not consume other species at all. Groth harmones in those??

I guess you are right. I work at an horticultural research center. We produce fruit amnd vegetables. We have been able to reduce the gestation period of most fri=uit tress by 2/3 and also increase the growth hormones in them. To my suprise, most people don't always complain that they are afraid of the chemicals packed in those fruits we produced. Although they were certified risk free for consumption but consumers sometimes tell us they prefer those that were grown naturaly. It could be that they have the idea you expressed above.

Organically grown fruit is indeed in short supply and is also becoming popular. Although organically grown fruit is a lot more expensive than the genetically bio engineered vegetables that are more commonly found in fruit and vegetable sections and the canned good sections of most local grocery stores.

First of all - do you have any researches to show that your theory is right? WEll i'm a tall person - 1.95M what makes me very tall :) And i dont think that it was caused by a growth hormones added to the livestock! My both parents are very tall - so is my brother and well he couldnt grow that's to growth hormones since they were not used in my country till like 1995 and this time he was well grown already :)

So you are saying that because yor parents both tall people have tall children that I must be wrong? Yes some people do seek tall partners and aim for taller larger kids. There is research all over the net about growth patterns and the corresponding theories regarding that growth trend. There are multiple theories regarding why the population is headed for skyscraper status and I feel that you are free to seek the info yourself rather than take my word for it or accept my theories.

I suppose that the generations are growing taller and taller because there has been continuous evolution in the human gene structure over a long period of time. And if you want to have precise inforation regarding this you must ask a Biology student or Doctors.

It's a myth. From our earliest ansestors, subsequent generations have become increasingly taller. This was long before anything was added to meat/poultry/grains etc. Personally, I don't like the idea of chemical substances being added to food. In some cases though it is a necessary evil, unless you prefer eating contaminated beef. Additionally, in regards to beef. The chemical structure of the hormones, antibiotics, are such that during the cooking process they are destroyed. If you can look at a drawing of the structure of these substances, the ring structure and the OH groups at the end are vulnerable to high temperatures. Thus when heated they lose their characteristics and are rendered inert(useless)when heated, There are organic/free range choices available if you don't want any additives in you food. I know they are expensive, but it may give you the peace of mind you are looking for when you eat a piece of food :D

I agree that younger people are getting taller but there's another aspect to this which you haven't mentioned and that is the fact that young girls today are starting their periods at a much younger age. Girls are now starting their periods at 8 or 9 years of age - how frightening is that! I personally know of two 8 year olds who have had this happen to them so I'm sure there are more out there. This has surely got to do with the food we eat which you mentioned. This takes away their childhood at a time when they should be enjoying their time as children - don't you agree?

I read about these things before and read about how these hormones makes girls reach puppetry sooner or show feminine signs at younger age, etc There must be too much true in it but since thousands of years generations are getting taller and there are historical evidence to prove this .. Anyway I'm a vegetarian and still not sure if fruits and vegetables are much safer .. they use hormones on them too.

yeah i think that is because of the growth hormones tjhat arec widely used nowadays in the food. i dont think this is a very much good idea to be artificially doing this.
22 Jan 07
It scares me! I am 5 ft 2 inches and that used to be about average, now they are 6ft something and growing! It has to be those hormones and other rubbish they put into our food. For this reason I will never go into fast food restaraunts any more, too much rubbish added to those delicious milkshakes, icecreams and goodness knows what. Always read the label, and if you can get the package that says free range, or go to a farm and see the animals that are going to be er "slaughtered" ask questions and find out what type of food they are given. But then if your kids are too short they might have a problem reaching the top shelf in your kitchen cupboard, which means you have to be on average 6ft tall to reach!

What you say is interesting but my family history indicates that we have been getting taller generation by generation. My grandfather was 5' 9" My father 6' 0" I am 6' 5" My 14 year old son 6' 4" (I kept growing until 19)

It's what we call supply and demand .. the demand is great so the farmers must increase the supply, thus with the help of scientist the growth hormones helps farmers to raise the number of livestocks.thus increasing there revenues and earnings.
