i just went to the vet a couple of hours ago. i brought my dog who is about 2months old. he is a terrier. he was given to me by my bestfriend. after we give him a bathe yesterday, he started to act strangely. he does not eat and he keeps vomiting.he hasnt been vacinized or anything. the vet says he might have contacted PARVO. the vet says parvo is a deadly viral disease of dogs. this really scares me. i know it was my faulty because i did not have him take those vacination needed. i had planned of that though but i was still saving for his vacines. i hope treating him is not yet too late. he is my first pet dog and i love him so much.animal lovers or those with pets especially dogs will surely know how i feel. what should i do now? i am soo worried.

If you took your dog to the vet right away and he was fairly healthy before (had been dewormed, etc.) he has a good chance of surviving. Hopefully this will show you and others how serious and vital providing proper medical care for your dog and cat can be. I worked for a vet and saw many puppies die of parvo because their owners didn't vaccinate them. It is also important to get the full course of shots because a very young puppy can still get parvo if it has had only one shot. I hope your puppy is ok.

I am sorry that your dog is sick and I hope he recovers. Are they sure it is parvo? I've included a website for you to look at. I've got to ask, what did you bathe the dog with? I ask because some flea shamppos have been known to make dogs sick. Good luck. http://www.workingdogs.com/parvofaq.htm

thanks brendalee..we are not yet sure if its parvo because the only symptoms are vomiting and lack of appetite and sort of depression. he does not move that much. he has no diarrhea yet. but the vet says he should be treated with parvo meds just to be sure. he is now in the vets office alone without me. sigh!!

I'm so sorry to hear that your puppy is ill. Parvo is a very deadly virus, especially to puppies. Treating it can also be very expensive. When will you find out for sure if that is what he has? If he does have parvo, be sure to discuss with your vet the proper way to clean your home to get rid of the virus. You pretty much need to bleach everything. You and your puppy will be in my thoughts today. I hope he will be ok.

I'm sorry, I responded through the email notification, so I couldn't see your previous comment that it's been confirmed that he has parvo. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for him!

When my puppy was 4 months old he got sick like that. It started with being slugish and then vomitting... then it went to him being very fatigue. He woudln't stand up he woudln't even follow our voices with his eyes when he talked to him. If we stood him up he would fall right over. We panicked! It was labor day weekend and we were up north... we called the closest emergency vet about two hours away... he said it sounded like Parvo... but before we took the long drive and spent all the money to try this... Feed him pedilite with a surenge... 6 oz. every hour if possible. Next to feed him bland foods. We feed Oscar noodels with light parmesean cheese and also we took a can of wet dog food (Use only half the can) just to give it some flavor and this way they will be more incline to eat it. It took about 3 days for him to get back to himself... but with in 5 hours we seen a improvment. I wish the best of luck to you. I know how attatched you get to your friendly K-9's it's hard to see them sick. Good luck. Keep me posted!

Hi! I hope ur dog feels better soon and I hope he didnt have any Parvo at all. I have a pet too and I know how it feels when your pet gets suddenly sick. My Migo suddenly start having diarrhea a few weeks back and made me worry since he never had anything else. So, I just keep researching about stuff to make me feel better. When ur pet come sback home, don't foret to give him regular check up with the vet. :)

Oh dear, I feel so sorry for you. I know that vaccinations are expensive, but it really is important to get your pup vaccinated. Your vet is right, parvo virus is deadly - lets hope that your pup has a good immune system so that he can fight it off. I really really hope he gets better. There's not much you can do except to go and visit him at the vet's, if he's been taken into care there. Give him lots of love and try and think positive thoughts. Good luck with your doggy.

thanks feralwoman. its true vaccines are expensive and its draining my pocket. i am a student and i rely mainly on the allowance given by my parents. but i cant let my dog suffer and die without me doing anything to save him. what i money, i still can find it when i graduate. but my dog once lost will never come back. thank you for responding. i promise ill keep everyone updated about his progress.

I'm confused. Did the vet say for sure that he had parvo? Has he started treatment? If you have started treatment, it is usually very effective. It consists of fluid therapy, to replace the lost fluids from his vomiting and diarrhea. Next is antibiotics. I hope the vet is doing this, and I hope your puppy responds well, and gets better.

yes the vet says its parvo. he vomits and has diarrhea. i called the vets office just a few minutes back then the vet said my puppy hasnt vomitted this morning(philippine time) and he looks better. but i still have to wait until tomorrow to see if he is indeed responding well to the medication. if my pet gets well, i will post his pic in my other post so that you will see how he looks like. thanks you for responding. this means a lot to me.

Not sure what to say...but that doctor didn't made any test on him to be sure, or he just made an asumption? If the vet was true then the only thing you could do is pray for your dog.

Parvo is a bad disease, but don't give up. My dog had Parvo and we gave him a shot to build his system back up. He did live. Don't give up. Most cases are bad, but if you catch it early, the dog will make it.

What type of shampoo did you use? My mom used a flea shampoo on a poodle we had years ago and she was allergic and acted similar to the way you are talking about. Sometimes you can contact your local SPCA for lower cost shots. Parvo is a big problem with dogs. :( Treatment can be costly. I hope that isn't his problem!

Hi. Im so sorry to hear about your doggie. I love dogs. I would just hang in there and try to take him for his regular visits to the vet. We thought our dog had parvo once also and it turned out to only be worms he had and we got rid of them. he was also very sick but once he was medicated and offered moistened food..he was fine. I hope everything comes out okay for that little guy/girl.

We got a puppy from the pound once. The little thing came home with parvo and we didn't know it was sick. 2 days after we brought it home, it started throwing up, diarrhea (with blood in it) I felt so bad for the poor thing. We had to have her put down because she was SO sick and the vet didn't believe she would get better. I was so sad :( I hope your puppy does get better. Hopefully it doesn't have another serious!

I am so sorry. I know how attached you can get to a pet. I am a petlover too. We have a dog and cat. I hope everything is ok with your dog. How can you find out for sure if it is Parvo? Are you taking him to the vet?

I am so sorry to hear that your puppy has parvo. It can be a nasty thing. I have seen puppies and full grown dogs pull through it, and I hope yours does too. Just make sure that you keep him hydrated--he will probably drink lots of water while he is sick. I'm sending up prayers to God for you and your 'baby'. Please keep us informed, ok?

I had a puppy with Parvo about the same age as yours. I took her to a vet who had been practicing for years. They kept her and started her on fluids but we also had her sister at home who started getting sick. The vet told us to give her Kaopectate about 2 tablespoons full every 4 hours. The very next day this puppy was feeling much better. When she started eating again we stopped the Kaopectate. Her sister also lived but had to stay at the vet for over a week because she contracted bronchitis also. He said if you will start the Kaopectate as soon as you notice the symptoms it can help. It is not guaranteed but worth trying. Hope your baby gets well.

i hope its not parvo! poor thing. i have heard that if a dog has parvo, you shouldnt get another animal right away because the virus is still around and your next animal could get it. What did the vet say? im not sure what to tell you to do, your vet should know something though. i hope your dog gets better though. good luck to you.
