Is television real? How do you break the illusion?

My husband is under the impressionthat TV is real. He has a hard time distinguishing between the actors and the characters they play, for example on sitcoms or movies. He insists they are one and the same and that everything on film is real. He's a fairly intelligent man. Do you know anyone like this or have something interesting like that to discuss?

I think all tv is fake, even those reality tv shows. I'm sure they have some sort of script to learn, some actions they have to do. Like the Jerry Springer show for example; plz, tell me this isn't fake??
