Help! My cat is in heat for the second time in 2 1/2 weels?

Okay, so I've never owned a cat until now, but I'm concerned. Rain is in heat for the second time. She finished her last heat 8 days ago!!! Should she be back in heat so soon? We're just waiting for her pet insurance to kick in so we can get her spayed, but this is insane. Any suggestions on how I can make her (and us) less miserable?

I feel your pain. Unfortunately she will continue to come into heat until she is either mated or spayed. Mine is the same way and this is what the vet has told me. She can drive you nuts. Well my husband is having a worse time than me because every time she comes into heat she seems to fall in love with him. lmao She just follows him through the house making this dove kinda sound. lol I don't know which I feel the sorryist for.

I've had this problem before with my cat. The best and permanent remedy is to have your cat fixed. In the meantime, give her some relief by applying some toothpaste on the outside of her genitals. Place some super minty (the stronger the better) on a cotton bud and dab generously on the lips. The cooling effect will distract her for an hour at the most. You would need to reapply it every time she feels the heat again. I know how irritating the yowls could be so i hope this helps you. Also, your cat will try to rub it off on the floor or on other surfaces so have a wet rag ready to wipe off the toothpaste trail so that no one will slip on it.

Thanks for the suggestion. Now, I'm just counting the days until she's fixed!

I had a Himalayan/Siamese mix that was in heat it seemed like forever. She drove everyone crazy! Her father got her fixed eventually ... I don't know how often they are supposed to be in heat... but I know this cat was a lot.

For a cat it's nine days on nine days off. Give or take a few days. It sucks but it's true. I just went through that with one of my cats. It was driving me crazy because she'd scream all day and night. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to make her less miserable. My only recommendation is that as soon the insurance kicks in and she's not in heat get her spayed. She'll be alot happier and so will you.

That's sooo not encouraging :) But we have a date now with the vet, so long as she isn't in heat Feb 5....and well, maybe if she is. They said they can do the surgery regardless, it'll just cost a bit more. And, after today, it is sooooo worth it.

No, unfortuntely, this is will keep on happening happen until you get her spayed. For yourself, maybe you can isolate her into one room, the calling will get louder and she might start to wee around the house marking her teritory.

Hi there...cats are polyestrus meaning they can come into heat multiple times a year until they are spayed. Some people do not realize that many shelters worldwide offer low fee/free spay/neuter services available. If you are located in the USA, you can ring 1-800 SPAY USA http://spayusa.org to locate a nearby participating shelter. Another list of USA free/low fee clinics is http://www.petsandanimals.org/spayneuter_services.html
