Generally I'm not always a fan of cover songs but I just listened to Bif Nakeds remake of Metallicas "Nothing Else Matters" and omg I LOVE IT....I wouldnt say its better than but its definately right up there (of course I'm a huge Bif Fan as well)....anyway it got me to thinkin about some other remakes that are pretty damn good...for example Korn's version of "Word Up" which is FANTASTIC! Bifs Version of Twisted Sisters "We're Not Gonna Take It"...Aerosmiths version of the Beatles "come together"...Guns N Roses version of "Knockin on Heavens Door" omg there are tons out there..."I Put a Spell on You" redone by Nina Simone AND Marylin Manson BOTH fabulous versions.....Love Spit Love redid "How Soon is Now" BUT I prefer the Smiths version.."Oh Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison was redone by Van Halen and again I like both versions BUT I think I lean towards the original more.... So what do you prefer, the original or the remake of a song?

Yeah, Knockin on Heavens Door has been covered by a ton artists but it's best by Bob Dylan.

which I prefer depends on which I prefer, regardless of which was the original. Placebo have done some excellent covers. as well as the better known ones, like 20th Century Boy, there are lots they did as fantastic B-Sides, and my current favourite of their covers is 5 years by Bowie. absolutely stunning.

it's on youtube. if you put in Placebo, Bowie and Five Years you should find it. they're big bowie fans, too. they've done tracks together a few times.

IT really depends on the cover song. sometimes the new is actually better - sometimes not. I love Tori Amos' covers of "Enjoy the Silence", "Love Song" and "Daniel". I like Sheryl Crow's remake of "Sweet CHild of Mine". GOBs version of "Paint it Black" (from the Stir of Echo's soundtrack). Personally I think Fiona Apple's version of "Across the Universe" is better than the original by the Beatles.
