To all moms out there. Can you suggest a good recipe to prepare for a 3 year old child? I have a hard time with my son. He doesn't like to eat that much but he loves to eat chocolates and junk foods which is bad for him. That is why i try to prepare variety of foods that would attract him.

Make some sandwiches like peanut butter & jelly or cheese or whatever and then cut shapes out of it with cookie cutters to make them more fun and appetizing. Also, you can put peanut butter on a stalk of celery and have him put raisins on it and tell him it's ants on a log. You can make wraps out of lots of different things like veggies and cream cheese spread on a flour tortilla and roll it up.

Hi delaney! In my experience (I have 4 children) 3y.olds usually don't like hot food (i.e. cooked) - but what I used to do was get them to help me make up food. Get them to cut fruit; cut carrots; fresh beans; peas; that sort of thing. Mine used to eat heaps of it - so I never worried too much about what they had at dinner time. I mean kids are hungry when they are hungry - and usually meal times are too far away! Else slice up oranges, bananas, apples, grapes and stuff like that and put it on a plate and put it in from of your child and see what happens. He'll munch away on the bits he likes! Best of luck.

oh yes. He likes to eat fruits too. He just doesn't eat his regular meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner). But i will surely try what you suggest.

Carrots, are good for the teeth :D. Cut apples into bite size pieces. I remember watching a programme about a little girl who would eat virtually nothing that was good for her. So what they did is they took her favourite food, e.g. yoghurt and said to her "if you eat a little of that" ie the carrot "then you can have a little yoghurt" Kids are very funny with texture and I still will not eat peas or beans because the texture is funny. Introduce them to all sorts young so they do not grow up fussy like me! Carrots, baby peas, baby sweetcorn, DO NOT GIVE VERY YOUNG CHILDREN NUTS ESPECIALLY NOT PEANUTS THEY CAN CHOKE. Raisins, grapes, banana, peach, pear, apricot, tomatoes, cucumber [remove the skin] Cheese, kids love cheese, not the trashy processed stuff full of salt. Fresh cheese. Yoghurt, fromage frais, rice pudding, custard, semolina, bread and butter/margarine, toast cut into strips. A soft boiled egg and the toast dipped in! delicious. Scrambled egg, little omlettes.

I have 3 kids who've been picky eaters most of the time. But they all love spaghetti. The sauce I make is a bit sweet, I put hotdogs, sliced mushroom, plus pineapple tidbits in it(they love fruits). And with the help of Barney's cd they now ask for macaroni and cheese, and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. For dessert, fruit salad. I suggest you keep junk foods out of the house. The reason they don't want to eat is because they're already full from all the junk. A bit of chocolate is ok(cookies or drinks) but limit candies. Replace junk foods with fruits, even canned ones. My kids love them, it's sweet enough to replace candies.

How about ants on a log(celery with peanut butter and raisins), or celery, carrots, trees(broccoli) and blossoms(cauliflower) served with ranch dressing. My girls used to love those things. Letting the kids help prepare these foods makes it even more fun and they love to share it with friends. Apples with peanut butter is wholesome also. Good luck!

One of my children is a very fussy eater so I always had probl;ems finding things he would eat with the family. My all time favourite is pasta pasta pasta. Done with creamy sauces or a tomato base. He also like plain rice with chicken or grate vegetables into mince rissoles (It hides the veges). Good luck. Most kids grow out of their fussiness and eat what their body needs for nutrition. The experts say to just keep offering new foods in fun and small portions.

The only thing I would add to the good suggestions already made is to stop giving him chocolates and junk foods. If he is only 3, then you have control over this. If he is full of junk, he won't be interested in anything else.

Most kids will eat spaghetti bolognaise...I find this a great opportunity to hide some other vegies as well. I great carrot and zucchini into mine. If your child can spot a green vegie easily try peeling the zucchini first. If he likes cheese put piles of grated chees on top. I never had a problem with my children eating this when they were little.

3 years old, get the kid to help you cook, my son was 3 at daycare and once a week, they cooked. The kids all lined up to wash their hands, they got plastic knives, they made a something. One time it was stone soup, he came home with the recipe, the history behind stone soup and we had to make it every week until summer came. When he helped cook, he seemed more willing to eat it. Make jello, add shredded carrots and apples. Add other fruit. Again let your 3 year old do that. When my son was small (a long time ago) they had a mixing bowl with a suction cup and a lid, I think it was tupperware that made it. I might be worth inquiring if they still make it. Get a breadmaker - let him add the ingredient into it for banana bread etc. If he is more involved, he will more likely try it. Beside, soon he will be ready to cook for you and when he grows up he will be ready to cook for himself.
