Why do most parents lie to their children.

I detest lies. Most parents lie to their children as soon as the kid understands language. They tell lies about Santa and the Easter bunny. The kids are usually set straight by someone other than their parents. The parents do it because of tradition and everyone else does it so that makes it OK. A few years ago, I read of a parent that protested at these lies being taught to young children at school. They were shouted down by all the other parents that enjoyed lying to their kids. That person IMO, was the only one that had stopped to think about what they were doing. The only one with half a brain amongst the whole lot of them. I will continue to set kids straight about these lies told to them by their parents, hopefully upsetting their parents to the MAX. Try and sue me for telling the truth because it upsets you and see how far you get. Doctors and nurses often lie to kids, take the needle jab for instance. 'Now this won't hurt' they say, JAB, 'Yoooow' says the kid, suffering from pain. 'Hey, you lied to me, that hurt a lot' says the kid, never completely trusting a doctor or nurse again. They should have said, this is going to hurt a bit but it must be done, because..... No wonder the world is the way it is.

I couldn't agree with you more. Parents and authority figures lie to kids all the time. This sets the children on a path to always be skeptical, cynical, and to doubt the word of their parents and authorities for the rest of their lives. I suppose some of that is a good thing, but I'm sure parents would rather their children trust them more. These white lies are the beginnings of why children don't believe their parents.

Hi, thanks for your comments. I see it as a very big double standard, no doubt these parents will go ballistic when they discover their child telling them lies about something one day, if only they would stop to think about what caused it in the first place.
