Can Woman be seen a beautiful and smart?

Why is it that in today's society that woman still are not viewed as being beautiful and smart? I mean men look at me and i have been told that i am a lot smarter than i look... To this I reply "What did you expect, jaw dropping drooling adoration, because you are just sooo irresistible"? Now I know that seems like a mean thing to say but men seem to think that because I am a beautiful black woman that there is no way that I can be smart too. It is like we women have to choose between the two. Along time ago a friend of my moms said that he would rather date the "dumb" girl because she is a sure thing...He went on to tell me to a smart girl. He said that smart girls don't get their hearts broken as often, nor do they find themselves constantly treated like objects. However never when I was young was I told that I could be both, the smart girl who is respected for her knowledge and the pretty girl.It's funny that not once did my mom's friend mention that even a not so smart girl can still say no..LOL Me I am teaching my daughter that you can be anything. that a woman is multifaceted, and 3 dimensional, we are constanly evolving and growing. I want her to know that any person who Say's otherwise is ignorant. However I have the good sense to realize that it has to be my job to change a man's perception of me, though I may be attractive. The first words out of my mouth can be of substance rather than "wow you have pretty eyes". Men need to stop taking a woman simply at face value.

Society in general today is severely flawed.
Not only on womens' front either, with men too..for the common known example of guys being taught that their emotions are bad and make them weak -- but it's not true.
Society usually had little useful things to say to the educated people lol. So I've found it's often better to ignore the curious creature that spouts lies and half truths. I guess..people just want things to fit in nice neat little boxes, the smart girls are ugly and the pretty ones have fluff for brains..it's sad, completely wrong, but the way it is..unfortunately.

How true, if only the world really did fit into nice neat little boxes things would be so much easier but that isnt teh way it is and hopefully one day people will see that women and men can be smart,sensitive and not be ugly or weak. thank you so much for your opinion.

Outward beauty catches men's eyes but it is the inner beauty that captures the man's heart. Anyway beauty is a matter of perception, what is beautiful to some may not be beautiful to others. No smart men will simply take a woman simply at face value. Cheers!

This is very true! So maybe we all need to be smart and not take anyone at face value.
